had a look of that Taylor guy. I do appriciate that he does not want to do too much photoshopping..but I also think that he is a tad too technical to my taste. but really interesting to see things like that ...

So... any estimation when we will have this lens available for purchase?

I think I will skip the new DFA 50mm and save money for this one.

Keep up saving. It wont go to waste anyway. I think that 2 * lenses more will be available in 2 yrs. First this and then the other.

And if it's in the same league as the D-FA*50/1.4 then IMO it'll be worth it - I will have no need for my K85/1.8, A*85/1.4 or FA*85/1.4

Really hoping the new 85 has better controlled coma/astigmatism than the new 50. It's pretty bad wide open. Hoping stopped down to f 4 it'll be usable but I've yet to see anyone post examples

Is it? Why don't you post an example?

I haven't bought it yet as I'm hoping to find examples of the lens stopped down to f2.8-f4 but Lenny has posted a wide open example in the lens clubs group.

It may not be absolutely perfect in every respect, but it depends very much on what you want to use it for. This photo (again at f1.4) probably sums up why it is perfect for me....

Not quite sure what you mean by astigmatism, my copy seems to be giving macro like flat field performance with virtually no distortion. Coma wide open - not sure I've seen that either. Longitudinal colour aberration; that does exist wide open. Show me any 50 1.4 that doesn't...

Please, for the sake of fair and unbiased reporting, explain your findings.

I just posted a link to a image of it's distortions wide open. It's bad enough for stars that I think you would have to stop down to use it on a crop sensor. Which is fine, it's still a great lens, I never said it wasn't, but for astro I don't think it would be good wide open for sure. I haven't seen any posts of it at f2.8 or f3, until then I'll wait. The 15-30 for example is really good performer, and I use that lens, but looking for one around 50-85mm.

I've been meaning to say for a couple of weeks, bur not got round to it - I'm interested that there is still not even a mock-up of the 85/1.4 on display at Photokina, despite it being scheduled for next year -I'm wondering if this is a new policy, or there's something they don't want to show and can't hide with tape...
