Interesting article at Imaging Resource: Ricoh @ CES 2017: Tech demos aplenty and insights on the Ricoh R Dev Kit from the Theta’s creator. I hope I put this in the correct forum!

That was almost two months ago tho!

The Ricoh R is very interesting, but it's made by a completely separate division than the handheld theta.

Yes it was a while ago, but the article just came out the other day. As Mr. Tomkins said about the Ricoh booth, "we came away thoroughly impressed by the company's various technology demonstrations. Ever since then, we've been meaning to put together an article giving you a rundown of what was on offer. And now, we've found a spare moment to do just that!"

No 4k!

It offers a mode for 60 minuten fullHD recording, with 4GB max data. That is 1,1 mb/s so you are looking at smutch or pixels.

There is a need for the step upwards to 4k streaming.

If you remember right, 4K will be in next model, consumer based and to be issued end 2017...

R dev kit is only made available to allow for "open-sourced" new apps...

What I find most interesting about the Ricoh R is the inclusion of an SDK, developer forums, a Github, image control tools, and source code.

If only the Pentax 645Z/K-1/K-P etc engineers (and managers) would talk to the Ricoh R team, and do the same! Amazing things would happen.
