Theta does not need many lenses but it needs development resources. Money is the limiting factor.

Twice as many as a conventional camera.

K-1 Over Canon, Nikon & Sony

Hello All,

I just sold my Canon 5D3 and bought the K-1 with 24-70mm lens as opposed to upgrading to the 5D4. (I am keeping for 7D2 and 100-400mm ii for birds in flight). The focusing system with the 7D2 is perfect for fast motion. I wanted to use the K1 for landscapes and some macro. I really liked the reviews on the K-1s dynamic range, pixel shift, 5 axis etc. I live in Southwestern Colorado so the landscape opps are just to good to pass up. I didn't want to spend 10k for the 645z and a few lenses.

Another thing that made me want the K-1 is the fact that Ricoh gives you something with the firmware updates as opposed to simply fixing bugs. Not to mention that for my needs the K-1 will out perform cameras at twice the price.

My goal is to get the Irix 15mm, the Pentax 100mm FF Macro and the 150-450mm tele.

Somewhere in this forum it was posted that Ricoh needs to make the best Crop, FF and Medium format cameras with all of the practical and needed features. It is beyond me why they or another camera company hasn't done this. Which ever one does will own the dslr market.

I also liked the fact that this is a "Stills" camera. I have been a photographer for 20 years now and simply do not want to pay for video in a camera. My goal is to get better at photography every day. It is not to master another trade.

The attached LS photos are from the 5D3. You can see the banding from post processing. The Magpie is why I am keeping the 7D2 for BIF/Wildlife. I can't wait to use the K-1 and pixel shift to for Landscape photos.

Cheers,

Randy

Great shot on the Magpie.

Canon sensors are 2 generations behind Sony when it comes to DR.

I kindly and honestly appreciate it, that one or the other PF-member came to the conclusion that PENTAXs AF-Systems could need improvement...

The PENTAX brand and upcoming cameras would profit much more from honest postings...
slacking around and stating that some Pentax Crop-Body would be better than a Major Brands FF, ignoring everything a Canon 6DII offers (yes DR may be a problem, but thats not the point),
does not help the brand nor does it make things better...

So, if a Pentax APS-C camera truly offers a better image quality (in certain conditions involving high DR), we should all be hush-hush about it? Heads bowed in shape?

We should stop taking pictures.
Because there is no such thing as the best autofocus on the market.
And as we all know, the best autofocus will ever be Canon's.

Yes Pal, and here's why I agree...

I like AF for doing the basic work. Quick shift lets me have control. Now if only my eyesight was better...

Seriously though, many folks forget that in all of the bench tests the SAFOX was a bit slower because Pentax set the control limits tighter, loosen them up, and you get a Canon or Nikon.

For me, it's all about the glass and the transmission quality. K-3, K3II, K-1 seem to do very well.

Besides, I would rather get insight on what a good camera/lens is from others I meet on this forum, clients, or my own eyes.... Andre Agassi, I'll take his recommendation on strings and tension...

Would the creator of the thread be so kind and repeat its title after citing my following line:

Nikon is Sorry That the D850 Sold Out Before It’s Even Out

Nah, I didn fancy that one...
Nikon is Sorry That the D850 Sold Out Before It's Even Out

...I am also an enthusiast to the brand(big fan) but think its time to close this thread and start a new one called:

Petition for significantly better AF and faster framerates instead of megapixel-madness
