Awesome! Full HD means less than half of 720 per lens, so 4K is going to make spherical video really, really good.

Ricoh was showing 4K 360 video at CP+. I guess it was made with a prototype of this. They also had a demo of the spatial sound. There was a boxer hitting a punchbag, and as you changed the view, you could hear the punches landing to your left and right. Unfortunately, the demo was just with a screen, so you couldn't get the full VR with sound experience.

Looks like an up-market model, and probably won't be cheap, but some of the more serious 360 cameras from other makers are ridiculously expensive.

The best way to get 4k video is to duct-tape one of these on a Pentax DSLR.

Great news! I know Richard fancies themselves as the market leader in 360 cameras, and it's great to see them staying competitive.

Being an owner of the Theta S and a K-1, I can't wait until they make the combo zoom pic thing available to customers.

I wonder if this site for that Theta model is even in any way related to Ricoh-Imaging or just a separate company of some sort within Ricoh?

Oh, no, according to the logic of a small group the Theta is doomed, since it can not shoot 36 Mpx images.

No need for duct tape:

Now hopefully Ricoh got hold of a decent enough chip for 4k processing.

About those useless interviews in which no information whatsoever is given:

6. What are your plans for the development of the Theta line? Do you think 4K spherical video is a possibility?
We know that a lot of Theta users are requesting 4K and HDR, as well as live streaming. We listen to our customers and our product team is considering these requests, though I can't confirm any exact plans.

For an imaging device that captures 360 degrees spherical image, or video, more resolution in video is welcome, because that is the sole purpose of the device, to make its one and only field of view — which is a total field of view — as clear as possible.
DSLR is not such one-purpose, one-lens device.
