What is a new survey going to reveal that Ricoh don't already know?

That there is a marketing department?

Pentax K-S1 Promo Features a Bad Photoshop Job

The KS-1 piece was released in the Fall after all the interns went back to school. There is no way summer interns would have ever screwed up the Photoshop that bad. That had to be management.
Yes I recall that one.. it is very possible the interns could screw up the photoshop work that heavily. They're interns..

But we don't know it was them definitively. Still it was easily seen as not correct. I mean anyone shrinking the DSLR down to a P+S size KNOWS what they are doing (is wrong). It is obvious. haha

Can we send a sruvey to Pentax, asking how many lenses and cameras they can develop per year...

On a scale of 0-5,

1) How well do you value your customers?

2) Is AF tracking a real priority for you?

3) How many lenses can we expect in the current fiscal year?

4) A K-3 II direct successor is a top priority for your company?

5) The results from polls and surveys you conduct are used in planning of new products?

etc.. that would be fun.

It should start, "On a scale of 0-5 where 0 means "it is difficult" and 5 is "research is in progress"..."
I can answer your 4 questions.

In that case, all of the answers mean the same thing... 'we are keeping you on the hook as long as possible.'

It's not their fault if you can't make the distinction between a flat out dismissal and an enthusiastically positive answer

If you want to discern 'we are looking into it' as an 'enthusiastically positive answer' then be my guest. Just don't be upset if it doesn't happen quite like you anticipated.

We have an idiom over here of "Don't count your chickens until they've hatched." This means don't assume or make plans until they have occurred.

@mee:
Maybe we should start mentioning which "Ricoh Imaging" we're talking about
Ricoh Imaging Japan is busy with photo schools, exhibitions, equipment trials and so on. They are also responsible for R&D, thus best served by product-related surveys. I think that monster lens survey was their doing.

@Winder:
Perhaps it's time to forgive mistakes made years ago, don't you think? AFAIK that image was a proof of concept of some sort, and it wasn't supposed to be sent to customers.
Other brands' users are able to get over things that are much worse; for example Huawei's clear misrepresentation of their phones' camera performance: Huawei Slammed for Implying a DSLR Photo was Shot with the P9 Phone
That was not a silly mistake, that was dishonest. Huawei users don't care.
I don't think a single person who worked for RIAC at the time still works there - which might suggest something.

No, no, no, it's not "we are looking into it" - but "research is in progress". "We are looking into it" is maybe a 3?

Joking aside, it's interesting to re-read older interviews and see the wording used when responding about certain features, then if those were implemented or not. After paying attention for a while, I think I started to make the difference between "yes" and "no"

Or it might be feeding confirmation bias.

Or it might be feeding confirmation bias.
But "research in progress" is identical to saying "we are looking into it" -- its a vague statement.

Yes, one can read older interviews and make a note of which particular words and phrases are used. But that can be it's own form of confirmation bias, as you say.

I'm only jesting about the Japanese roundabout refusals, as well as their habit of not boasting. Please don't take it too seriously!

It's not that vague, if you pay attention. The trick is to keep in mind that they're not lying to you.
