Yes. Pentax product aren't (yet?) positioned like Leica products. Would this come with a new mount?...
They shouldnt..This cost Leica and Canon dearly, although in Canon's case, it was neccessary.
If this is what I percieve from Ricoh, you will be looking at future lens, extremely high quality, slow development times, and very expensive..They know that Pentax lenses are being used a lot adapted as higher quality alternatives for Sony and Canon FF AND most important, cinema purposes on REDs and Blackbox's. Arent Pentax lenses quite expensive right now?
What is a requisite to a brand to be highly prized? manufactured in its country? I wouldnt be suprised that future Pentax will return to Japan manufacturing, even if it means higher costs.
Look up at Google why Leicas are so expensive and apply the dynamics to Pentax today..you probably get to see some roadsigns towards Pentax future..

When Toyota moved to the premium end of the market with the Lexus, they began by making comparisons with Rolls Royce, which was, of course, several notches above where they were and are. Putting aside the vanities of marketing hyperbole, the trappings were not dissimilar, even if the products weren't.

As far as I can see this is not a new development. The Shinjuku square has google ratings as far as 5 years ago. To say Ricoh will move to Leica as a brand is a bit premature and not really founded on anything. They are a value company, not a premium company.

It is good news Ricoh is investing in presentation though. It shows commitment.
Nothing holds them back to turn around the tables..How about they decided not to run the more for money race and go for the niche?
Buy all your lenses now..it will go up in price..

You say that like it is a fact when in fact it is just a fantasy.

A link to the press release is here: ??????????????? ?????????????????RICOH IMAGING

And just to be clear, this is not a store like the Apple/Leica stores. This is primarily a showroom, gallery and space to host events. It's not new itself, because they always had a showroom in Osaka. It's just that the new one looks like a significant upgrade.

The new Ricoh Imaging Square Osaka opened this weekend. Yaotomi Camera, a store in Osaka, posted some images on their Twitter. They are dated September 8, so they must have got in the day before it opened. I think they had some special events on the Saturday, one of which was to showcase the new Theta.

The place itself looks about the same size as the one in Tokyo (Shinjuku), but it's a lot smarter.

There are some more pictures if you look down their Twitter feed.

Yes. The concept of Apple Stores and Nespesso stores. That could work, one just need to have the premium products at premium price to come along with the brand image.
But almost all camera makers have said they will go this way.
The question is how many of them will be able to coexist in the declining photography market?

We cannot know who will stay and who will leave and who will merge and it's not a problem at all. Dealers sell all brands, they try to be customer affiliated, so if one brand dies, they held to smooth the transition to another system. The key is to come see them with a project and a budget and a good idea of a reasonable discount in mind.

This is a link to a slideshow on the same store's Facebook page. I like the logo with the stylized Pentax, Theta and GR. If you continue the slideshow, there are pictures of the Square open to the public and a Theta prototype I hadn't seen before.

Thank you for these links. As for the unknown Theta prototype, I reckon you mean the one on the front left with its 'oval eye'.

Are they going to put one in Toronto?

It has been at least 10 years since I could actually shop for Pentax product.

It's rather pathetic how excited I feel at any sign that RI is still active - there was a marketing email from RI the other day about an 'Indian Summer' of Ricoh products, which turned out to be the K-1 silver and the latest theta - but just seeing a marketing email gave me a little jolt of excitement. Sad, really

It would be great if they had a showroom like this in NY to expand awareness of the brand, esp Pentax. Not sure if it is economically feasible though.
