KP on Closeout at Adorama?!

Got an email with a link to an Adorama private sale...

Pentax KP 24MP TTL Autofocus DSLR Camera, Black

The KP is marked down a little off list, nothing too exciting, but what really caught my eye was that above the price, the status listed was "Closeout". The KP silver has same "Closeout" status on it as well.

Interestingly, the K3II is not listed as closeout... and is in stock also.

OK rumor mill, what is happening?

Eric
Picture added. Sorry, I blanked out price because I wasn't sure if a team of lawyers might come after me for posting "private" sale pricing. LOL!

Hah! No... wondering if KP is either being discontinued already or Adorama choosing not to carry it for some reason, or it is a typo or ...???

Wow.

Could it be they are getting ready to announce the K-3 III or whatever will replace the K-3 II?

It could possibly be how they positioned the KP and it's price that might be the issue. IMHO I did not think the KP was worth more than the K-3 II flagship APS-C. Even though it added some new features it was still not a flagship and should not have been priced more than the flagship. If you price the K-3 II replacement around $1300 to $1500 to be more expensive than the KP people may just decide to go with the K1 instead. Another scenario is that people would rather pay a little more and buy the true flagship rather than the KP. I always viewed the KP as more of a K-70 replacement than K-3 II replacement and that it should have been priced accordingly.

Anyway no matter how I look at it the replacement for the K-3 II should have come out before the KP or the KP should have been priced less than K-3 II. The KP should have knocked the K-S2 out of the line up, taken the K-70 spot and made the K-70 the entry level DSLR.

Just my thoughts on the subject

Update: For what it is worth, I checked B&H and they do not allude to any closeout status on the KP. Also did a Google search for any closeout indicators, and could not find any.

(a) effective marketing terminology
(b) a price drop because the camera has been out for almost half a year now

Last week I saw the close out on black and silver bodies at Adorama. Funny thing is they don't show closeout on the kits, just body only.

Yes, this was noticed a week or so ago. I wonder it they are closing out the initial stock to be replaced with kit having only the small grip. The in-depth review on this site mentioned that change would be coming.

According to Adorama Web Chat, they are selling out existing merchandise and will not
be restocking presumably due to item being discontinued. Go figure!

Every store seems to mean something different when they assign labels like 'discontinued', 'close-out', 'clearance', or even 'sale' to a product listing. Sometimes the label may change on the same product even within the same store, as often happens on Amazon for example. Such arbitrary labels are not a reliable guide to whether a manufacturer has stopped making a product.

Didn't we had fake "discontinued" occurrences in the past, for several times?
