B&H is now taking pre-orders.

Any idea how durable the silver coating is? I'd like to get one, but not if it's not going to hold up.

Depends of your delicacy in use : my K-3 silver is "like new" after 4 years of relatively intense use (average 3 days per month). It hasn't got any paint change/wear, so quality is acceptable for me.
But it is prone to scratch probably about or so like FA* lenses, if you don't pay attention.

Seems like the Belgian people are crazy on colours too as I learned from Pentax rep over here that 60 pieces are allocated for Belgium (however I have no way of checking that number.)

60 pieces for Belgium (pop. 10M) would mean 1800 or so for US (pop. 300M...)

We don't know how Ricoh allocates the lots for each national/regional market. Some said elsewhere the allocation for the UK is 60 units also. Perhaps the allocations are based on overall sales of Pentax DSLRs or the K-1. It may be determined by some arcane formula involving the phase of the moon or algae blooms for all we know.

I could be wrong, but I thought the number for UK was 40. But even at 60 that would be relatively small if you consider that UK is a bigger market with an apparently strong Pentax following...

I mentioned in another thread that 40 units was quoted as the UK allocation for the K-3 but then someone said it is 60 for the K-1.

I figure something like 1250 for Japan then 750 for RoW. I sort of get it, but I sort of don't get it.

Then again, if an LX 2000 with the silver A50/1.2 suddenly appeared . . . . .

I'm not sure - I think the hotshoe cover is polished metal instead of silver.
