Surfar, I overheard my wife on the phone saying "Once you go black, you'll never go back."
Does that mean she's secretly into cameras too?
That's not what it means, Clackers.

Of course, you could go by the old wise saying,

"If you can't afford silver,
You might want to pilfer,
Enough of the money,
And stay with your honey."

I don't know, but doesn't the silver model come out towards the end of the camera life cycle?
Going gray is usually a sign of getting old.

It's not fair to compare the Japan price to the US price. Look at the Japan recommended retail price of the K-1 and it's accessories.

K-1 is 278,100 yen - ?PENTAX K-1 ???: ??????? | RICOH IMAGING
DB7 Battery grip is 28,900 yen - ????????? D-BG7: ???????? | RICOH IMAGING
D-LI90P Battery is 7,344 yen - ??????????????? D-LI90P: ???????? | RICOH IMAGING

What Nokishita Camera is saying in their rumor is that the package is the silver camera, the silver battery grip and two batteries for 297,000 yen.
【?】「PENTAX K-1 Limited Silver」???|?????????
It's actually cheaper than the combined total of those items. On the surface it's not a bad deal if you want what's in the bundle.

Of course, most people don't buy at the full price, and you can get these items considerably cheaper than the recommended price if you shop around. So in reality you pay more, just not the huge margin you are suggesting by comparing to the US price. Another factor is that the limited Pentax cameras typically sell for about 20% more on the used market in Japan, so you can probably convince yourself it is a better investment if you're looking for excuses.

Why do people stew at all about this announcement?

This is a cosmetic change to a very good camera that allows them to get a little extra money from customers who like the way it looks and have the money to spend on it. I doubt that a whole lot of R and D funds or staff went into it. The normal version of the K-1 will still be available and clearly they are working on other stuff behind the scenes and won't tell us about that till it's ready.

Wait 5 years for fullframe
Get K1, wait 2 years
Silver edition presented
Wait 2 years for K1ii

In the meantime K3 iii might be ready.

Most likely, the R&D was some marketing and planning meetings.
If anything, this sped up the development of new products, as the management got busy for a few days and couldn't pester the engineers. 😉

Am I the only one who thinks this silver paint looks kinda cheap? I'm happy with my black one. I find silver cameras only look good if it's not silver paint but the actual metal you're seeing like i.e. on the Leica cameras. I did like the gunmetal K-3 though.
My first reaction was, "Nah."

Just saw the official press release pictures here They show the silver K-1 with the silver FA Limiteds. Unfortunately the colors don't match. The Lenses have a slightly warmer more brassish tone than the camera. At least that's what it looks like on the pictures. Hopefully it won't be that much of a difference when holding it in your hands otherwise this would be a complete fail since a match was obviously intended.
