But you already do! Who controls the trafic lights? ho places stop signs? Who decides on the speed? Who pays the cops who try to enforce the rules? Who controls the buses?
In fact, given the way the market is evolving, you'd be relinquishing control to the likes of Google and Tesla, not the government.
I understand that for Americans, government control is a deeply ingrained fear (it isn't for much of the rest of the world, not to the same level). But collectively, we don't have a problem abandoning our privacy to online companies so we can look at more cat pictures :P We grant access to most of our lives to Google and all, because it's convenient. When autonomous cars really become mainstream, we'll dive in for the same reason : it's convenient (and much, much safer).
