Ogl and Zygonyx, are you planning to buy a "full frame" medium format Hasselblad or PhaseOne - seeing that Pentax doesn't plan to release one?
(and that should also answer the "stupidly").

No.

I guess Ogl, like me, is worryingly concerned and disappointed by the following facts :
- no new 645 lens formula since "bulky and DA only" 28-45mm, now 3.5 years ago
- no DFA/DA 25mm renewal, for about 4 years, whilst all concurrent MF players now have wider than 26mm primes in their lineup
- not any chance that the old FA645 lens are suitable with the forthcomming 100 Mpix "dwarf" sensor, so Pentax will only offer 4 lenses for the sake of hyperresolution, less than any MF competitor
- no P645 f/2 prime offering, whilst all MF players offer at least one including Fuji and Leica
- Fuji GFX system now globally cheaper than 645Z, and offering more lenses and primes with consistently better compactness performances, and wider appertures
- Fuji getting the same 100 Mpix sensor soon or late, maybe very close to the next Pentax 645 release.

Plus, we all know what money Fuji puts in it's photog business, and what real hype the GFX system is getting.

This said, a really shrewd strategy for Pentax would be to take advantage of the full capacity of it's 645 mount, which implies issuing DFA only lenses, in the perspective of unavoidable differenciating necessity in the coming years.
But we don't see any clue for this.

Find it odd they would make a cropped 645 lens now.
But then the patented lens may never see the light of day.

Yep.

To make it short : Pentax did have an enormous advantage in the Digital MF compartiment for 7 years ; but is now loosing ground regarding about every system criteria, with absolutely no real novelty since the Z.

"Worryingly concerned"? Are you sure that's what I'm seeing here?
Kettle logic doesn't work with me; if price is a concern then making a DA 645 lens is not stupid. Similarly, if lack of new lenses is an issue, then some activity in this arena is not something stupid either.
But, you could try to convince me that Ricoh Imaging should release a significantly more expensive "full frame" 645. Then and only then you two could question in such strong language the DA 645.

By the way, the "full frame" Hasselblad is $33,000.

Considering the fact that a lens lifespan as a viable product is at least a decade, and the fact that a FF 645 telephoto lens is hardly any more expensive to make than a cropped 645 lens (the gain is in wide angles), the DA lens in question is baffling.
The 90 Macro lens is a D-FA and it it is certainly not meant for the film 645 shooters. Hopefully the patented lens is the one that has been for years on the roadmap and may not see the light of day.
The cause for cropped 645 camera has diminished now that Pentax have a FF K-mount camera and lenses.

Do you live in categories BUY or NOT TO BUY?

It's indicator of future development and vector of progress Ricoh's 645 system. And nothing else.
I'm just interested in photo news. Can you understand it?

Of course, it's just patents. But who knows?

Companies do not survive with "photo news"; they survive by selling products for a profit. So it's all about "BUY or NOT TO BUY".
I've seen many times people aggressively attacking a company's strategy, but seldom any sort of analysis behind that attack. Is a Pentax 645 "full frame" feasible? Would they want to go there, or perhaps it's simply too expensive once we include all the necessary things? There are many things to think about, before throwing the stone.

Agreed Kunzite but that being said and neglecting naysayers, trying to be objective: it is clear that Kmount going 24x36 only strengthens the attractivity of a Full Frame 645.
That is all theory though neglecting financial and time constraints from RI.
