I would say it's done on purpose. Look at the piece of black tape on the golden ring after "18mm".
Nice pickup, Mistral!

I have a lovely crisp, new $5 note for anyone who can sneak me the specs on this great new lens.
Sorry I can't offer any more than $5, but I am saving for a new 11-18 !!

🙀

That is a nice catch. And the bigger piece of tape lower down on the lens.

These are part of the weather sealing it will be sold that way and you can't remove them!

This is a wonderful new lens and a great addition that makes the DA* APS-C lens series of Pentax a complete set and something unique in comparison with other companies' APS-C offerings. Great move from Pentax, I'm sure it will be a top quality lens.

What I always find interesting is not what they are hiding, but why they are hiding it, and why they do it in such a crude way (esp name of K-1). Do they not want competitors to know the specs, do they not want us to know, or are they just as yet undecided? The lens looks quite finished - more so than the 50mm mock-up as first shown, so it's unlikely to be up for a major redesign. Anyway, not really important, but it's hard not to be curious about things you don't understand

Best case scenario for me and long tracks in general could be
DFA 15 Limited WR for landscapes - doesn't exist
DFA 28-105 WR for walk - I have it
DFA 150-450 WR for wildlife - coming this xmass (replacement for Sigma because of WR)
DFA 100mm WR macro for flowers, plants and other details - I have it
UPDATE: I just noticed this lens on freshly updated K mount lens roadmap: ULTRA WIDE-ANGLE SINGLE FOCUS LENS (Pentax D-FA 2018 or later) which looks like something between 15 and 20mm (more precisely probably 17 or 18mm) which could be my holy grail for FF landscaping. Oh boy, maybe I'll skip DA11-18 and wait for that lens.

In the same level with the distance scale indicator (see the masked window on the left). That's pretty unlikely.

I don't think so : there's a big filter shred in front of the lens.

For those who are skeptical about the wisdom of a high quality APS-c lens: a time will come, if it hasn't already, when technology will reach a level where the advantages of FF over APS-c are reduced to a point of insignificance for some purposes. Establishing yourself as the strongest player in the APS-c field may turn out to be a very wise move.

With the 50mm, they were hiding the SDM.

A really smart feature would be a hyperfocal focus button, and or an infinity focus button, or some programable focus buttons that offer instant focus. I think a lot of people (especially astrophotographers) would find such features very usefull.

You mean so they wouldn't get negative comments about the SDM - that went well, didn't it

Looks like a nice lens to me.

For me, I am happy with the announcements. I'm not a negative person, in general, but Ricoh hadn't announced or shown anything new in ages and them showing two (very nice, top end lenses) with definite launch times is a statement that they are still strongly committed to both crop and full frame k mount cameras. It is easy to hear constant negativity and think that Ricoh has given up on the k mount or that they are in the process of launching a new mirrorless mount or whatever. But I think this is a strong positive (unless you are one of those holding out for mirrorless).

My hope would be that they have been working on new drive mechanisms for these lenses and having sorted those out, further lenses can be released at a slightly faster pace than have seen over the last year and a half. But enough talk, it's time to go out and take some photos.
