The DA Wide Angle Zoom on the roadmap is finally there, it has become a DA★ and you are unhappy? Good old Pentaxians!

Looks like an original Pentax design.

Can't see any examples of something similar, except for the Sony 10-18 f4 on E-mount and the Sony 11-18 (variable aperture) on A mount...

Takes the place of the DA 12-24, I guess. I think that was a design that was licensed from Tokina.

There was a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 and there is a Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8.

Indeed, the smc Pentax-DA 12-24mm f/4's optical design was licensed from Tokina (and it was the only one; all other shared designs were Pentax designs licensed to Tokina).

"Unfortunately" I'm very happy with my 12-24.... so what now? LBA raises its ugly head...

Just looking at the lens line-up for other APS-C systems, it's actually surprising that no other companies have a crop lens like this. Even among third party producers only Toking has a similar lens. Olympus makes one for mft, though. It's quite a unique lens.

.Wow! The problem is, it looks like it's KAF4 mount. So, it won't work on my k-5II. I'm sad.
