it's just that a lot of folks were wondering about Pentax's long silence (disregarding the KP, at least) after the K-1's release

this new lens is also the only other f/2.8 UWA zoom out there aside from the Tokina 11-16 of yester years, is it?
been browsing through Canikon's APS-C lenses and can't see an UWA at that max aperture

I have a Sigma 10-20/3.5, so this wasn't exactly a need lens....I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway...

CA has been an issue for a lot of the older Pentax lenses ime... if they can reduce that it would be very welcome.

More importantly it is a DA* lens so weather sealed I'm thinking too.. that would be the real boon to this lens.. weather sealed lens for a weather sealed body.. and just in time for winter for those of you that actually get out in that cold!

Ever since i recommended the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 for my wife to use with her Nikon I have been yearning for a lens like this. Count me in!

Wow wow ! Too bad I sold all of my apsc gear to buy K1. In terms of purchase plans, the roadmap here http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/japan/products/lens/images/K_Mount_Lens.pdf is useful. But what's the difference between the red and orange for the new lenses? Other question is, sell the 15-30 and get an 11-18 with a KP or wait to a UWA prime for the K1? 15-30 deliver good IQ but size+weight are killing me.

great news! - I'm not really into APS-C for wA, but it looks like being a great lens and a very solid mark of commitment to APS-C, which should silence some of the doubters

Not interested as I'm using the K-1 now (otherwise that would probably be an instant purchase ^^), but I'm really happy to see a new DA*, especially when it's been roadmaped for a looooong time as a "simple" DA!!

More importantly it is a DA* lens so weather sealed I'm thinking too.. that would be the real boon to this lens.. weather sealed lens for a weather sealed body.. and just in time for winter for those of you that actually get out in that cold!
