No. The pictures pretty clearly show an aperture lever. This almost certainly won't be a KAF4 lens. Stay calm and keep shooting!

The picture looks a lot like the Tokina 11-16mm. I am guessing that this is a redesign of that lens. That lens is about the same size as the Pentax 12-24mm but 130 g heavier. I think that is a lot better than carrying the K1 + 15-30mm into the back country.

DA* is nice, but personally I would have preferred a limited design, per the DA Limited 20-40mm. This is a lens that I would very much like to own.

Were they ever out of it?

Let's wait for the K-3 II's successor. It's not a chance if the DA Wide zoom from the roadmap has become a DA★.
Never Imho

Let's say it will give the faith back to some !

It's what many asked from them and they created a great surprise ! It's like announcing Christmas before Christmas !

About bloody time! It was burning a hole on the lens roadmap. It's much shorter at the long end that we were led to expect though (the fuzzy bar on the roadmap looked like 12-28), and faster than I expected.

I wonder if around 15mm this might work the K1 in FF mode... that would be really nice.. a 15mm 2.8 smaller than the 15-30mm that is big and heavy..

I always thought the Tokina 11-16 sounded like a great lens and k-mount land could use something like that. This has the potential to be even better, and I'll take the added range. I don't think I'm in the market for this lens; I have the DA 15 already, so I'm in the sweet spot in the range, and I like some things about the DA 15 a lot. But if I didn't already own that lens, I could see a real case for this 11-18.

It seems like we've got the 85, 50, and 35mm primes coming on deck and then this 11-18 zoom. I'm curious what's next.

We get a DA* lens. I didn't expect that. It looks like it has some Tokina DNA.

Does f 2.8 matter to you? It didn't to me when I had my 12-24. Does the WR that goes along with it being a * matter to you? It would have been huge to me.

F2.8 gives you a brighter more pleasant viewfinder. Especially nice when you use the lens indoors.

It has a convex front element, a distance scale window and the zoom and focus rings are in the same places as those on the Tokinas. Then again, humans and bananas share a fair bit of DNA, too.

I had a Sigma 10-20, but sold it in favour of the 8-16. Depending on the weight, this lens, coupled with the Kp, could make a useful travel combination - my K-1 and Limiteds are putting a crease in my neck at the moment.

It’s a DA*. What makes you think it isn’t a fully original Pentax design? How different can they look, the laws of physics being what they are?

This design could have been lying on a shelf somewhere from the Tokina cooperation days. Put it in a new suit with a improved sdm drive and some hd coatings et voila!

The DA Wide Angle Zoom on the roadmap is finally there, it has become a DA★ and you are unhappy? Good old Pentaxians!
