The tamron lenses rebranded are identical to the original tamron lenses, in that case even the focal is different...

This 11-18 WR + 16-50 WR + 55 WR + 50-135 WR = Nirvana

People are way too eager to "prove" (just claim, actually) that Pentax doesn't make their own lenses.

Not a lens for me, but very happy to see this. I'm very happy with everything ricoh is doing for pentax!

Just the wrong discussion. Who cares what is designed / not designed by Ricoh staff. The only thing that should matter is optical quality, reliability and price. If that's a traditional DA* lens, image rendering should be what it's like with other DA* lenses, which is pretty awesome. One could also ask is the grains of sand or if the coating chemicals used to make the glass was made by Pentax... plain non-sense IMO.

Have any * Star lenses ever been made by other manufacturers? I don't remember any...

The * line seems to be designed by Pentax engineers themselves and for the most part, they've made some of the greatest SLR lenses in the world.

It's about time! DA* and 2.8 makes it the perfect lens for me shooting in bad weather and harsh environments with the K-5 (assuming it's not the KAF4 mount). I probably won't be able to afford it off the bat though, so maybe prices on the 12-24/f4 finally come down?

Now where is the new K-3 body with the 24MP BSI sensor to go with it?

FA has the 15-30. 11-18 is basically a 16-27 which makes it the 15-30 for crop sensors.
That rebadged Tamron 15-30/2.8 in fact has cca 16.2-30/3.2, so if the new APS-C lens is really 11mm (probably rather something like 11.5) it could still have same angle of view.

I hope that those old sudden death motor 16-50 and 50-135 are going to be obsoleted as soon as possible. Replaced by significantly redesigned HD DA*16-50/2.8 and HD DA*50-150/2.8 with optics suitable for hi-res sensors instead of tons of CA/PF and weak F2.8-F4 like current DA*16-50 has..

Well I have a slightly different take on it 11-18WR, 20-40 WR, 55 WR and 55-300 WR with a good Pentax APS-C body = a particularly useful and reasonably light weight travel kit I have previously owned the DA*16-50 WR and it is a very nice lens, but heavy enough for dragging around the world - I swapped it out for the 20-40.

This new Pentax DA*11-18/2.8 is going to be a really interesting lens in the marketplace. In APS-C there is not much that is similar.

Leica have a very nice little 11-23mm in TL mount but it is variable aperture f3.5-f4.5, then there are the Sigmas and Tokina's previously mentioned on this thread.

I consider it very good news that Pentax are releasing this lens, and that it is constant aperture, and WR. It provides a very nice UWA zoom for Pentax, and will compliment the DA Limited primes very nicely.

Another SDM to go bad? I'd really love to have this lens, but... Nope. Think I'll pass. I'll just have to stick to my 15mm Limited, thankyewverymuch. (sorry.... got burnt bad on the SDM front. Been through two 50-135* and a 16-50* - none of which can seem to keep the SDM working. I give up.)
