The d fa 24-70 and 15-30 are also SDM. It is not a technology, just a designation.

Just the wrong discussion. Who cares what is designed / not designed by Ricoh staff. The only thing that should matter is optical quality, reliability and price. If that's a traditional DA* lens, image rendering should be what it's like with other DA* lenses, which is pretty awesome. One could also ask is the grains of sand or if the coating chemicals used to make the glass was made by Pentax... plain non-sense IMO.
On the contrary, the ‘*’ line should demonstrate the depth and breadth of Pentax design skill. It should be the ‘halo’ line that sells everything else.

Honestly, they should have retired the designation. It is forever branded suspect, as demonstrated above.

Nice work Ricoh, Really good to have a true Pentax UWA , and a 2.8 to boot, and a Star lens, I have been concentrating on FF lenses, but this is a very tempting offering, Might have to sell of fa few of my older lenses to fit it in.

Two Thumbs up.

Another SDM to go bad? I'd really love to have this lens, but... Nope. Think I'll pass. I'll just have to stick to my 15mm Limited, thankyewverymuch. (sorry.... got burnt bad on the SDM front. Been through two 50-135* and a 16-50* - none of which can seem to keep the SDM working. I give up.)
Ancient history, I would have thought, Astonm.

They were the very first Pentaxes that had their own focus motors, IIRC.

I've converted my 50-135 (and helped another forum member last night convert his 16-50 and 50-135) because it takes such beautiful pictures, and I even use it on cropped mode on my K-1.

This new lens seems a great complement to those zooms. I have the DA12-24 but this thing should be at another level (including price!).

Hope it works to some degree on FA

Bismillah

Is there any chance this will work on FA at some focal length? I really want a 20mm FA lens!

This is awesome. I might have to re-evaluate my crop strategy, having just sold my K-3, DA*16-50 and DA*50-135.

Ummmmm, the DA*50-135 is internal focus and internal zoom. No extension at all. Did you mean the DA*60-250?

This lens looks to have an extra switch on the right hand edge of the image. It is likely to be a zoom lock, so prepare for disappointment.

Next to no chance I would say, but it will be just fine in crop made at 13-14mm, which will give you the equivalent of a 20/4

If you really want a full frame 20mm lens they are out there. The FA20 and FA20-35 are excellent and very compact. Voigtländer makes a nice manual prime. Then there's the DFA15-30 of course, and the older Pentax K, M and A series primes.

Soon to be announced, together with the HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW, according to Nokishita Camera, with the first two pictures.
Announcing is great, but when will they actually ship? Ricoh has a history of not shipping for a year after an announcement.

Very VERY stoked for this lens!!! I'm sure the price will be painful as all new nice things are, but I'm definitely upgrading from my 10-20 f3.5 if only for the weather sealing.

This is such a very useful focal range. I take about 75% of my shots with the 15-30mm. This + DA35mm LTD + 55-300mm is all anyone could want (perhaps sprinkle in a 55mm or 70mm if you are a portrait shooter).

Agreed, although I am not sure this explains some of the other lenses I own....

When product photos leak through this route, it’s normally about a month away from shipping. They will probably announce the exact ship date after a couple of weeks in a separate announcement.

I can only imagine you are thinking of the DFA 70-200 when you talk about a year delay. I think that was something more like a last minute recall. They had even sent them out to reviewers and I got to try a couple of copies at CP+.

Ricoh is quite good at shipping things they announce quickly these days.

Actually, I just read the original post, and it says it came from an overseas source (i.e. not Japanese retail). It says they may be reference designs to be shown at Photo Plus. So what I said about being available in a month is not necessarily the case.
