Indeed. It's quite liberating.

That’s not helpful at all. The ANNOUNCEMENT Press Release directly states the D FA*50/1.4 will ship spring 2018 and the DA*11-18/2.8 summer 2018. You are promulgating contradictory, speculative, negative supposition with no knowledge or fact basis, expressly for the purpose of diminishing Ricoh Imaging In the minds of all readers of these threads. You should at worst qualify such statements as your speculative opinion; better you simply shouldn’t say this at all.
Did the K-1 ship when it was originally scheduled? Did the D-FA* 70-200mm ship when scheduled. Ricoh says these new lenses will ship in 2018 and I think there is a chance that that will happen. That is why I said "might". Ricoh does have a history of missing its original ship dates.

I still have the DA 15 and I really can't imagine going wider. The larger aperture is interesting but not critical. I'm happy to see another lens in the lineup and what appears to be a good one at that. However I would be more interested in the 20-40 to complement my DA 15 than this new DA 11-18. Now a replacement of the 17-70 with a DC motor and a constant f/2.8, now that would be interesting. That would (pardon the pun) capture the wedding market. It would probably be a more profitable lens for Ricoh too.

A 17-70 f2.8 constant would be pretty big. It would also be a great way to replace the DA*16-50. It would give a head and shoulders advantage over the Tamron and Sigma 17-50's. Some merit to this idea.

Well... Scratch the D FA * 85mm off of my list and sign me up for this one. That will be an awesome wide angle and fast zoom. Sucks I feel my pocket lighter already. In 9 months I should be ready! This will be awesome on the KP!

I reckon the 11-18, 20-40 and 50-135 would make a very nice APS-C WR wedding or travel combo.

It looks way more ninja with the gaffers tape on it. The hidden switch probably releases the shurikens (it is a * lens after all).

I'm not sure if this is a working prototype or just a mock-up, but it looks to be internal focus and internal zoom? I don't see any seams where it would extend. The Tamron 11-18mm extends only a wee bit when zooming and the Tokina 11-16mm doesn't extend, so I don't think this is out of the question.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It would, depending on size, also make a great AW hiking kit covering a large range. Add the DA*200 and you're set for nearly anything...

The information presented states that the 50 is a new SDM but the 11-18 does not say this. I hope they both are new motors.
Wouldn't this imply that the 11-18 is a screw-drive lens? Don't all the DA* lenses with SDM have SDM in the name? But, all the DA* lenses up until now have had SDM...

They haven't designed a screwdrive lens in years, Leekil ... also ancient history.

Can't ever see them doing another.

But it still brings up the question of why they didn't mention the lens-focusing technology for the 11-18, when they did for the 50mm, or why it wasn't specified SDM if it is in fact SDM. Unless it is still too far in the future that they haven't completely decided what type of focusing motor it will have in it.

I just don't think forward-announcing press releases have the completeness of a spec sheet, Leekil. I won't be lying awake at night about it.

Looking at the Pentax website here in Australia, the most expensive prime is simply listed as 'Pentax DA 560mm f/5.6' while a consumer zoom gets impressively called 'Pentax HD DA 55-300mm f/4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE'.

(...).
I would say it's done on purpose. Look at the piece of black tape on the golden ring after "18mm".
