That is a mirrorless lens. And quite large, I'd say.
That is a full frame 15mm lens, if you think it is large, please find me smaller 15mm for any mount whenever and wherever it is made in the last 100 years.

Uhh... the Voigtlander/Cosina Heliar 15mm f/4.5?
Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Aspherical II BA212M

And do you have no issue introducing mirrorless lenses in a discussion about SLR lenses? When it's about ultra wide angle?

Kunzite is right in that choosing wide angle lenses for mounts with short registration distances gives smaller lenses than are capable with longer registration distances. To make lenses small, while still using a 40-ish mm registration distance, about your only options are to make them slower and not optically correct them much (allow more vignetting, etc).

On the other hand, you probably won't find a smaller full frame lens than the XSI 40mm f2.8.

But not sure what this has to do with the 11-18. It is not designed for full frame and while you can certainly mount it, it seems like a bit of a waste to shoot it in crop mode.

neat... the picture in the reviews (same as stock pics on b&h) do not show contacts or aperture lever.
Venus Optics Laowa Zero-D 12mm f/2.8 in Pentax K mount. You see the 'A' position on the aperture ring.

Yeah, sometimes the vendors like B&H don't use camera specific images when there's a 3rd party product like a lens, even when there are differences. Have to be careful about that.

For one reason or another it seems like Pentax gets the most support from the 3rd party lens builders in offering in-body aperture control.

The same aperture mechanism has been used for 40 years so it'd be well documented.

That is the same lens, previous generation.

No I don't have a problem with that, I'm just replying to already off-topic comments.

You cannot prove that SLR ultra wide-angle lenses can be small by mentioning mirrorless/rangefinder lenses.
But even in your unfair conditions, I've shown you how the previous generation of a similar lens is smaller. So? Should we continue?

Of course, the Pentax DA 10-17 for APSC and the older F17-28. Both are fisheye zooms.
Yes, both of them designed by Jun Hirokawa. To my knowĺedge the F17-28 was the first fisheye zoom ever, even though Canon and Nikon have since released their own fisheye zooms. The new fisheye zoom I suppose Masakazu Saori will design (he is currently the leading lens designer at Pentax, among other lenses he made the DA*16-50/2.8, DA*50-135/2.8, DA21ltd, DA70ltd and DFA*70-200/2.8), unless they just update the F17-28 with new coating etc. What I"ve learned as an owner of both the F17-28 and DA10-17 is that the zoom function makes the fisheye so much more usefull and easier to use.

Then they are not serious enough, Ogl.

In fact, if they were *really* serious about landscapes they would be carrying through the valley a 645Z, DFA 28-45mm, tripod and filter system.

This DA* 11-18mm f2.8 will be much bigger and more expensive than the DA15 Limited, so get ready by working a second job for more money and going to the gym to build up muscles, it will be a premium product. If not for you, fine.

With all due respect, Boris, both of those statements are so general - IMHO - as to be meaningless, without proper context. A fast, high-quality, wide-angle zoom (regardless of weight) offers advantages for many photographers that make it a much better choice than two light wide-angle primes in certain situations. Then again, in other situations, those two wide-angle primes may indeed be the much better choice. One setup doesn't replace the other - it depends on various factors as to which is better. The "users from Penta-club" really aren't in a position to offer wisdom and advice unless they fully understand the needs of everyone, and are more specific as to who their advice applies to...

Yikes! Let the people who want the lens buy it, and if you don’t want it, don’t buy it.

I agree.. it is incredibly arrogant to tell someone they are not serious enough because they find a particular lens unsatisfactory. To completely dismiss them in such a manner. That type of thinking isn't helpful to the community and likely not in the table of contents of How to win friends and influence people.

I think Pentax should eventually offer a slower wide angle FF zoom though.. one with front filter threads. And probably a 70-300 D-FA type lens. After they fill the primes collection a bit more.

Far more types of photographers who work in different ways and value different aspects of a camera system than can be pigeon holed into a single one.
