I agree.. it is incredibly arrogant to tell someone they are not serious enough because they find a particular lens unsatisfactory. To completely dismiss them in such a manner. That type of thinking isn't helpful to the community and likely not in the table of contents of How to win friends and influence people.

I think Pentax should eventually offer a slower wide angle FF zoom though.. one with front filter threads. And probably a 70-300 D-FA type lens. After they fill the primes collection a bit more.

Far more types of photographers who work in different ways and value different aspects of a camera system than can be pigeon holed into a single one.
Beautiful double standard, Mee ... Ogl criticizes a new Pentax product, and you are silent as usual, opinions are opinions, false claims and all, right?

That is, until someone defends the same product, your fingers move so fast on the keyboard, smoke's being given off. Modus Operandi.

Kunzite nailed it: HD Pentax-DA★ 11-18mm f/2.8 - Page 20 - PentaxForums.com

You talk slanderously about me...

You cannot prove that SLR ultra wide-angle lenses can be small by mentioning mirrorless/rangefinder lenses.
But even in your unfair conditions, I've shown you how the previous generation of a similar lens is smaller. So? Should we continue?
Are FA20/2.8 and FA28/2.8 small?

Then again, in other situations, those two wide-angle primes may indeed be the much better choice. One setup doesn't replace the other - it depends on various factors as to which is better. The "users from Penta-club" really aren't in a position to offer wisdom and advice unless they fully understand the needs of everyone, and are more specific as to who their advice applies to...

I prefer primes and change it than to use zooms. I've sold my FA20-35/4, by the way. It's light and not big.

To carry 1 kg zoom is not my choice too.

You say the 15-30 is too big and you want compact primes.

Yes. It's fact. But where did I criticized 15-30? It's cool and sharp zoom. But big and heavy.

The FA28/2.8 is certainly small, fits in my pocket. I think the FA20 is about the same.

I do prefer A20/2.8 and A28/2 to those plastic made primes.

Trying to guess what people on your ignore list are saying from PF members' replies is something entertaining especially when everything confirms that putting him on your ignore list was the right decision...

Pentax released another unique lens for APS-C users (there is not such a lens in any other brand) and from the * designation we know that it will be excellent. Despite that the negativity from some users seems to overflow... I really wonder what are they doing in this website, they must be totally lost. OTOH I have never seen the opposite. There are no members that are overwhelmingly positive towards Ricoh-Pentax with no reason at all! All I see are some rational Pentaxians that are happy when something new and exciting is on the horizon and whiners that complain about everything, no matter what. There is no balance in PFs!

Are those 11mm, or 15mm if we stick with the D FA?

Your choice is your choice (FTR I also didn't get the 15-30, yep, mainly because of its size). But you cannot replace a 11-18, nor a 15-30 with a 20 and a 28mm prime.

As I've said elsewhere on these forums,I think it is very telling that Ricoh turned into a bunch of clueless imbeciles the moment they bought Pentax, whereas before they had done everything right and Pentax were getting it wrong.

Yikes! Let the people who want the lens buy it, and if you don’t want it, don’t buy it.
It's pretty sad how people really have the idea if a particular piece of gear doesn't fit their personal needs then it is a useless item that probably shouldn't be on the market. I just see this lens's launch as a positive, saying that Ricoh is still interested in releasing high quality lenses for APS-C. And if people think it is too big, there will still be the DA 15, DA 14, and DA 12-24 on the market that hopefully will meet their needs (along with lenses from Samyang and Irix).

I won't get it because I own the DA 15 (which I like a lot) and the DFA 15-30, but I am still pleased that this lens is coming out and look forward to the images that folks who buy it post here. Because that's actually the main point of a lens (I think) -- to create high quality images, not just to stir discussion on the internet.

My guess - this lens will be not lower than 1000 USD.
