There are three models of 50mm Pentax lenses on the market that you can buy new.
At the same time there are zero models of lenses of those two types.
That are facts not opinions and also I don't care for your opinion.
my opinion is that there is no problem what ever anyone is thinking. If APS-c is working for you, then it is good thing..no? I think that it is best compromise. it can even give you some pixel peeping satisfaction...where as smaller that that formats can really not do that. An it is smaller than FF.

if you are looking pictures only from internet/downloading them there, then FF and even APS-C is too much. That is if you don't need shallow depth or wide DR. But this is ofcourse what we all know.

Reason for what there is and why and how, it is also quite reasonable, so why bring up this 50 mm. thing? it is basic, of all of basics...and I personally don't find 50 mm lenses even so nice(55 yes).

edit: was looking at my text..and it is not that good, english is not my first language...

@banep:
No need to get confrontational. What I said applies to me as well, I'm not trying to "jump the queue" here - especially as what I want the most is the ultra wide-angle.

About the lenses, I'm afraid you're mistaken: there is only one FF fast normal lens, the 1991 era FA 50mm f/1.4.
The DA* 55mm f/1.4 appears to cover FF worse than the FA (with the kind of smearing on edges I'm seeing from my DA 70mm Limited).

Don't forget the 43ltd!

Also the DA 50mm 1.8 and Sigma 50mm 1.4 HSM.

The DA 50mm f/1.8 is not an official FF lens, nor is it f/1.4. The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 is not a Pentax lens.

It might be that I'm little a bit in love with my DA*55, but My copy is just fine on FF...regardless...new 50/1.4 is really welcome add for sure to line up for making it what it needs, to be a modern high end lens collection. What ever anyone is saying about those 15-30 and 24-70 and some other bought from Tamron. Wise move. they knew that thwy need them, and also these little gems and FF is out already, and people want them. so why not buy zooms, and make the rest. Efficient.

now if they would work little better with 3.rd party guys, it would be perfect. For me it is enough, but there are others with more defined needs.
Edit: when they have catched up lensi lineup(most important lenses covered) who knows if we get more of those special lenses, like FA limiteds in future, eh!

At some point not especially you but some where speaking of DFA limited line (instead of star line). Do you know if any upcoming lens is going to fit that denomination of a quality lens optimized to fit a light/small design ?

No idea. Haven't heard anything in that direction.

I think the jury is still out on the DA*55. My copy does vignette some what even w/o the hood at wide open and focused to infinity. I get the same results to a lesser degree with the FA 43 ltd. But I very rarely shoot wide open and focused to infinity. On the other hand I do not see the kind of edge smearing you are reporting on this (the 55mm) lens. I'm not saying that you don't experience this problem, only that I don't.

NaCl(I use the DA* 55 as my walk around prime and am very happy with it)H2O

some might say that vingette and smearing, goes along with FF...isn't that what it was with film too..? I have shot a quite a bit wiht FA 35/2. it vingetters too, quite a bit and not sharp edge to edge. It is old timer. Sigma 35/1.4 is better(I have not got one)...but then again, FA 35 is quite small for what it is, and handy.

I suppose that D-FA 50/1.4 will be more controlled and that is where that size comes from.

DA*55 is not so small either, but it is still quite good for the money, being AW and all. When it came out, there was a lot of discussion of it's size compared to FA 50 and K 55, or what else. Doomed, because of many things...look at it now. I think that D-FA will take it's place as it was when it came out. It is digital FF, and it is demanding.

DA* 55mm has been on first roadmaps as D FA 55mm.
D FA* 50mm will be released this summer.
