Mitakon Speedmaster 135/1.4 now for Pentax?

According to this rumor site:
Mitakon Speedmaster 135mm f/1.4 lens now available in 7 different mounts | Photo Rumors

QuoteQuote:
The Mitakon Speedmaster 135mm f/1.4 lens is "relaunch" with several additional mounts: Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K, Sony E, Sony A, Fujifilm G and Leica T (I assume they mean Leica L mount). The price of the lens is ¥330,000 excluding tax (around $2,900).

That's the price you pay for that aperture at that focal length, I guess.

What, you mean no pancake 135mm f1.4 version is forthcoming?
Darn, and I was starting to write the check.

Joking aside, we are a fickle lot aren't we. With IBIS we gain several stops, then with new sensors we gain more stops effectively, and yet, we balk at stuff we really don't want or need just because someone had the audacity to offer it in a K mount.

I wish more 3rd party lenses were offered in K mount, no matter how much I personally want or don't want one, because it is good for Ricoh if they do.

I can just imagine if most of todays Digital shooters who never shot film had to deal with the narrow latitude of slow slide film... or if they had to deal with the grain of real 3200 film... and that was considered exotic... iso512000? heh heh... I never saw a roll of that on the shelf. Sure, we pushed some films a few stops, but you ran out of headroom fast. Blurry clumps of grain were examined and praised for being almost recognizable! LOL!

These ARE the good old days, right now, we are just too caught up in sales hype and competition in the spec wars to appreciate it.

Yes another lens in K mount is welcome. Another manual focus lens though.. K mount needs autofocus lenses from 3rd parties in the 500-2000 dollar range. These 3k dollar manual focus lenses are only for very narrow niche players.

However, you have to admit it looks comedically large on that tiny sony camera body. It is getting close to pirate looking glass.

Serious question: How many of these lenses will sell in k-mount? 100? 1000?

If a fast 50 is a good general purpose prime, a 70-200 f2.8 zoom is a sports lens, and a fast 85 is for portraits, what's this lens for?

It's for the severely dependent lens addict.

For the person taking portraits from the back row? Certainly not for the incognito street shooter who is trying to go unnoticed, LOL!

I dunno...the 135mm was always an alternate to the 85-90mm holy trinity of primes to carry, and is a useful focal length. If you throw a 2x on it, you now have a 270mm F2.8, albeit at a slightly reduced IQ, but no worse than a zoom and probably better... so you just made up for its ungainly size by eliminating the large 70-200 2.8 from your bag.

Ya know, the hardest part of my day when I have to travel light, is picking what goes in the bag with me, and even then, I still bring too much of the wrong stuff and wish I had brought that "one" item.

These conversations are fun, heh heh.

It’s a very special lens for very special purposes. This would for example be an awesome lens if you want a full body portrait with a thin depth of field and creamy bokeh background. That is something you just cannot achieve with a fast 50mm but only with a specialized lens like a 135 f/1.4 or a 200 f/2. Another purpose that comes to my mind would be deep space astrophotography. But i guess most astrophotographers would rather buy a telescope and tracker for that amount of money.

So you‘re right they won’t sell a lot of these and even less in K mount.

I'm not trying to say that I know for a fact that this is a one trick pony. I'm just trying to figure out what the trick is and if it's worth the price of the lens, the weight/size of the lens, etc. I also have negative connotations with Mitikon and I'm wondering if this is one of the few lenses that they get really right. If Samyang's name was on this, I'd have a different opinion going into it. In other words, I wonder if this lens will have the quality to make it worth the cost & hassle.

I hope these conversations are fun, honestly, as they help me further my understanding of the tools available or how they might be used.

2999 is a little steep for me -- I would rather get the DFA 70-200 f2.8 for half the price. Not meaning to disparage it and glad that there are more options for K mount. It just isn't for me.

Maybe closer to 10 than 100. According to this unverified report: Mitakon Speedmaster 135mm f/1.4 Lens Hands On Images | Camera News at Cameraegg

only 100 copies of the original (no Pentax mount) release of this lens were made. Presumably, they sold them all.

But I have enough trouble focussing my manual Pentax-M 50mm f/.1.4 so not for me, whatever the price!
