IMHO people learn much more quickly that lenses are more important than the bodies early on. And definitely more than FF sensors. I know I did.

Full Frame cameras are still about the 3k range. If you think they will transform the market for anything other than the high end buyers that a good majority already bought FF cameras then you are wrong. Especially in this global economy climate.

Again the awareness of how Full Frame really benefits the average guy does not come close to making it a must have feature if it cost that more. If you were recommending a camera to an entry level photographer would FF be the first things you try to explain to them when selling it? Again things like higher mp count, live view, and movie mode would get you more attention than that.

We know now that Pentax will show at least TWO new camera - entry-level which good for pancakes and K20D super (I hope - 4.5-5 fps, 1/8000, new AF).

I believe that the global recession is most likely to hit entry level harder than the high-end. The higher-end is dominated by hobbyist and photography gear is a more important thing for them, and hence will be given priorities.
Anyway, the D700 is advertized for under 20.000kr here in Norway. This is basically nothing for somethning for someone within a hobby or profession. It is less than most people have paid for for their TV and DVD. Not to mention what people are paying for a good hi-fi system. What is expensive or not is in a constant flux. The first DSLR that sold in millions costed about the same as a Nikon F5; the most expensive pro film slr money could buy. Today, using the equivalent of $3000 on a camera body is not excessive for a large number pf people.

I see situation in such way:

K250D/300D???? - NEW entry-level camera for pancakes.
K200D - the model between enrty-level and senior cameras. I think it will be discontinued.
K20D - mainstream camera till the summer 2009 with price under USD750
K20D super - I hope with 4.5-5 fps, 1/8000 and new AF under price USD1100-1200
K1D - MF or FF.

Hoya love to cut costs. It's the most preferred moves. Here is 4 levels.

As for FF/MF - I think K250/300D (???) will change K200D and K1D(?) will be high-end model in 2009.

Regarding the subject of this thread, vs. this comment about Nikon I just read-- "Given Nikon's penchant to leak like the Titanic, we'll know more about this puppy soon, no doubt" ...

I can't help but notice the similarity between 'Penatx Leaks' and 'Pentax [Lens] Releases' ... they're both few and far between!

Well, consistency should count for something I guess... :ugh:

Finally, some hint @ what the largest aperture of the 30mm DA* will be! That's been asked dozens of times and I've never seen it answered even in guess once. I guess if it's a stellar performer and a $700 - $800 lens, it's LBA time. Let the waiting begin. I'll start putting spare change in a special piggie-bank devoted to it; I'll have enough in there by the time it ships in say, 2010, 2011. :ugh:

hahaha... ya gotta go Samsung if you want FF...

"...халва, халва, халва..." (ц) Ходжа Насреддин

PS: as Samsung makes the sensor and probably memory chips for the camera, it might
be easy for them to increase the FPS numbers (next rev. of the sensor, faster ram chips,
overclock something somewhere)... but the faster shutter and the better AF unit are a different story, I bet they will save that for the higher level AF-C camera, otherwise what else they will put there (KxD) to differentiate it enough from the alleged K20DS ?

neither will be the likes of DA*30 and DA limited 15... and don't twist the premise - the premise was : "that won't know the difference between an APS-C sensor and a "FF" one"... people who buy something outside the kit or double kit 18-55/55-200(300) or 18-250 typically know at least something about the difference - not they want or can buy it (FF)...

I understood it was a guess, not a hint. My guess is DA* 30/1.8

... but the Pentax version of the Samsung GX-X ? Hope it's not the end of Pentax as a brand (a new "Sony-Minolta" story ).
Wouldn't be a problem the label of the camera but the company's politics regarding compatibility with older lenses (M42 & K Pentax), the cameras and lenses quality and features whch other cameras don't have (11 focusing points, good and big viewfinders, shake reduction, dust cleaning, available vertical grip, weather-sealing, RAW button, DOF preview, top LCD and other features that can not be found on the entry-level cameras but only on the Pentax K200D ), etc. (I really don't like what have became of the Minolta cameras, especially the entry-level ones, since Sony mades them).

At least we should get another low-end from Pentax pretty soon now...
