I don't want to see a new update in this thread until there actually is new firmware

Yeah, but it may be a long and winding road to reach the corner.

There are two benefits. The aperture is recorded and while shooting the aperture will show in the view finder. This late in the game Ricoh/Pentax should get over what ever their reasoning behind not allowing this for so many years now.
The reasoning was dropping the aperture simulator lever one or more of their film cameras, and carrying that on to the digital line. The ability to do what you want is not possible with the present lens mount, and what you are asking for is a new camera with a new/old lens mount.

The way I read @rico's post,
it was just a suggestion to use the wheel
to set a manual indication
(in EXIF and the viewfinder display)
of the manually chosen aperture.

Wheatfield I am not asking for anything you just posted.

All I am asking is when I have a legacy non A lens attached to a Pentax DSLR the ability to record the aperture I am using instead of being stuck with the ƒ--. When a non A lens is attached instead of the aperture indicator showing ƒ-- the normal set of aperture numbers are there so the user has the ability to indicate the one in use for each image by using what ever wheel you have assigned to do so. The camera knows enough to indicate ƒ-- because a non A lens is attached they can just as easily have the camera software assign the normal set of ƒ stop numbers to wheel through in place of --.

Yes. Exactly. It shouldn't be rocket science to be able to do that.

How does the camera know the aperture we set on an old lens that has no electronic chip?

Cameras with crippled k-mount don't know.
That is why you need to use stopped down metering.

SLRs with fully featured mount knew how many stops the aperture has been stopped down. But no DSLR has this mechanical feature.

The camera does not, which is why Rico suggests to let the user dial it manually. Exactly like the camera asks for focal length info when using a lens not able to pass this info to the cam.

This would only be a way to record a complete exif. No influence on exposure.
