Most of my photos are of large non-moving objects. Pentax gets them right. The problems I have are with squirrels or birds moving away from me {they never seem to run toward me }. If I did a lot of that stuff, I'd get a KP + PLM lens right now. This is a case ignored by the folk who decry looking at new equipment, saying "new equipment won't make you a better photographer".

None? That's the classic example of where Pentax autofocus lets me down: Pull out K-30 or K-3ii, attach 55-300 screw-drive lens, point at bird or airplane flying in bright blue sky, hit autofocus, and whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... everything goes blurry, and the flying thing is gone.

Can you use techniques to help with that, or minimize it? Sure, quick shift to get close, f/7.1 or more for depth of field and let ISO float high, keep everything centered, use back-button. Buy a PLM. But I've had that happen multiple times every time I've tried to shoot birds or airplanes. Sometimes it happens with other subjects like sports.

I doubt a Nikon shooter would claim he has no issues with BIF.

One aspect where Pentax has been going away from "doing things differently", and instead joining the pack, is in lenses.
Most (all?) of the latest releases are fast and huge, not slow and small like the Ltds.
If they did release a 2xMP FF, it'd have stellar high ISO capabilities, and it'd be the perfect timing to release refreshed Ltds, with quality matching up to the best available, but small. Add to that the increased frame rate and other benefits from lower res/new camera, and they'd have something special (and different) to throw at the mirrorless size advantage.
Alas, we all know they don't have the capabilities to do that.

Only happens if I can't place the sensor on the correct part of the bird. That is the real challenge.....
BTW Never tried that lens.....

Agreed. I myself am still waiting for a relatively small, FF lens from any company that is a 14-24mm or 14-28mm F4, with reasonable weight, and WR . Nikon has announced a 14-30mm f4 lens, but someone in the know claims this is a dx lens for a Z5 model, mirrorless camera, with both coming out next year. Frankly, with only astro-photographers really need f2.8 or brighter ultra-wide lenses, but I never have as a mostly daytime, landscape photographer...

I don't know who this 'someone in the know' is but the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S is definitely a 24x36 lens that Nikon is showcasing on a (24x36) Z7.

Good to know and thanks for the correction! I believe it was Thom Hogan comment. Does this take filters? If so, what is the filter size? Now the big decision - buy a Z6 and get this lens next year or wait for Pentax's 11-18mm and hope for a higher-end Pentax body to go with it and celebrate 100 years of Pentax greatness and love...

It definitely take filters, look at this picture published by Digital Camera Watch

It's a bit difficult to read but I would say the filter diameter is 82mm.

Buy mirrorless, they say. It's small and light, they say.

Canon and Nikon are pursuing the same dream Pentax is - wide aperture perfect lenses. Compare the DFA* 50mm f/1.4 lens to the Takumar 50mm f/1.4 8 element lens. Both are FF, but the DFA is massive compared to the Takumar ,,,, "the dream" is the source of massive lenses.

I thought the D FA* is massive, until I've seen the Canon RF 50mm f/1.2 and the Nikon Z 58mm f/0.95...

Thanks and hope you a correct. If 95mm, that would be much less desirable for me...

and none of this is relevant to a K-30 replacement as long as it is K-mount.

Not 95mm. The second digit is definitely a 2 or a 7.

People who are willing to pay for perfect lenses have to spend serious money on filters also.

Fortunately, the K-30 replacement will use lenses like the 18-135mm, which uses 62mm filters.
