The KP is missing some important specifications that would make it a true successor, so just by specifications alone it is clear it is not a successor to the K3II. To me it was more of an attempt to ride the wind of the K1's success in an APS-C format body.
1st: Hi@all
2nd: sry. i hope i am not stepping on everybodies shoes here, but i completely agree with rush2112...
The KP was a shock for me to see, that PENTAX is playing the bells&whistles card at a higher price tag than a substantially much, much better camera(K-3II).
I dont get anything from a camera with just a single SD-slot having some mysterious co-processor, that does baked-in denoising... (maybe a bit less stars in astrophotography than with a K-3/II)
And just in case nobody noticed, if that aint enough its also very plasticky on top and far away from the build quality of the Pentax K-3....for sure not worth the price-tag charged...
Anyway i am looking into the future very positive and
would love to buy a successor to the K-3(II) body that is competitive to the core-specs of at least a Sony A6500 (with 2 card slots please...)
We need way more AF points more widespread across the frame...
and i would favor to have XQD cards only.... because High-Quality SD-Cards cost the same as XQD-cards. But SDs are way more vulnarable...

And despite some may like the a bit weird(because actually offering redundant functionality)multi-wheel arrangement...
I just cant find any sense in having it... Since i am a long term PENTAXIAN i know how the menu and settings work(ed) and find it very easy to set everything via the buttons and e-dials.(front o the grip, back o the grip - dials)
I would so much more love to have a fancy programmable OLED shoulder-display on a slightly tilted shoulder(like the mono-LCD is tilted on the 645Zs shoulder...)
So i can even check the histogram when i switch off the main-LCD...(I dont chimp so i often switch it off on the K-3 already. And read the actual settings from the shoulder display.)
I once rented a 645Z and i have to say i feel much more orientated on this body than on the K-1(whos design confuses me a bit) - the only thing i was missing on the 645Z would have been a Tilt&Swivel display... which neither the K-1 nor the KP offer...
I also shoot analog on a PENTAX 645N ... hope i can find people on this forum-page who have experience in developing film also.
(cause i plan to buy a JOBO or something alike ... BTW: does anybody know what happened to the OSIRIS F1.... that was such a cool product for 1.100 bucks or so, you had an automatic film processor... I would love to buy one... but with western inet-acc. it seems you cant find any e-shop offering those anymore??? Did JOBO buy them off the western and eur. markets? WTF? darn ... there should be a Kickstarter campaign to get that thing back on the market.)
Anyway... I hope I'll find some friends here who share some of my oppinions and still love to shoot PENTAX.
