I was going through my photos from Tokyo in 2015 and found the display for the K3-II in the Shinjuku display room formerly known as the Pentax Forum. It's almost three years, and no sign of a replacement... (I'm still quite happy with my K3 though).

Never had the K10D. A friend of mine has the K-x and I had a bunch of K-5's. And a K-3.

Ricoh-Imaging is a different company then the old one under Hoya or before. Ricoh-Imaging likes to present new items on homemarkets CP+. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
Since next year is the 100th anniversary of the company that eventually became Pentax, and taking into account Pentax's emphasis on the homemarket, I agree that CP+ 2019 is a likely venue to introduce a new camera.

True. Photokina has become more of a high society social media party to go to.

Wow! That IS a big anniversary! That must make Pentax one of the oldest players on the field, I really had no idea.

Let's hope they celebrate it with something spectacular.

I have to say... I'm with you. My two K3 houses (one bought second hand) are worn and weary, the K3II feels like a very insignificant (and somewhat old) upgrade to buy into now, and the KP seems like a bit of a downgrade, and it WAS a surprising twist when it was released. I am an enternal optimist though, and hope for... at least news in September.
+1
I have been thinking of getting the K-1 for a long time but I cannot decide.

I ignored that.
That indeed makes CP+ 19 a great candidate for any important unveiling

They even where the first japanese company to bring a SLR to the market...
All the other makers in Japan still were selling their rangefinders, when PENTAX came with the SLR...

I've been thinking the same - they seem to favour CP+, and it's well positioned to showcase the forthcoming year

And the K3 is no longer on sale in Japan or Australia. Adorama still list it, but B&H don't. Are Pentax really going to leave the KP as the "flagship" APS-C?

Well from all current technologie Pentax uses, only the accelerator wasn't in the K-3ii. So to make something to stand out and make a difference Ricoh-Imaging needs to come up with some newly developed tech.

Pentax is not holding back for an anniversary, they are solving a lot of basic problems and shortcomings. The first new large aperture lens with new AF engine is out, new camera features should also be in the works.

No

We've completed our CP+ interview, but it may be another day or two before the video is ready for uploading. One of the things we asked was whether the K-1 line would essentially be the only K-mount flagship, or if they planned to have a model between the K-1 and KP. They reiterated that they are working on a K-3 successor, so the KP isn't and was never meant to be the top APS-C model. However, it seems that the K-3 successor won't be able to come out as early as they had wanted.

How about a new date for the shipping of the aps-c 11-18mm f2.8 lens...that would be another good and encouraging move.
