There is no virtue to carrying future scrap metal around. That is why modern vehicles are made of "space age materials".
There is a virtue to a proper amount of stabilizing heft (aka, scrap metal) in a camera. The main drivers of modern vehicles being made of "space age materials" is government mandates regarding fuel mileage standards.

In this case, since end of May, Dark Image Syndrome has been an issue for the first exposure of the day, and everything is normal after that.
Have you tried setting the clock back 1 day at the beginning of each day?

Then why is all the competition going in the opposite direction of Pentax and reducing weight of their cameras?

You tell me? I find the weight of the K-3 not to be a burden and the K-3 is whats being discussed here.

"Silver KP" has been on my 'purchase soon' list for several months now {mostly looking forward to Black Friday or Cyber Monday} - but I'm so uncertain after the last month or so of talk that I'll probably just continue to use my K-30 for awhile since it continues to work for n-1 photos {first exposure each day lost to Dark Image Syndrome}
You can cure morning Dark Image Syndrome with an M42 lens (or other preset aperture lens) or take a picture that needs an f/32 aperture.

So just carry your "smart phone" and leave the DSLR at home or better yet don't buy a DSLR.

Edgy, arent you
There is no virtue in carrying heavy cameras... But there is good reason to make them as lightest as possible without compromising build quality too much.

All the recent DSLMs have just gotten fatter and more clunky to the point of not showing any size advantage any longer.

The same goes for DSLM FF lenses, some of which (see Nikon Z) are now 2x the size of same DSLR lenses and not even good performers.

--> 100 people will define the optimum of size versus quality in 100 different ways.
--> for the FF large size seems a complete non-issue for 90% of the market assuming Canon and the small players have access to market reserach data on this.

The people who have taken them apart tell me that Aperture Control is implemented via a little solenoid - materials used in the 'current version' seem to stick together after several year's worth of use .... first use in the morning seems to jolt mine free, for now.

Also safety. The "space age materials" make cars much safer in collisions than steel due to how steel transfers energy.

I believe key to keeping mechanism 'unstickable' is unsticking it regularly. My "backup" is actually a FA 28-105mm, which has an aperture ring, because anything which allows me to truly control aperture from the lens should bypass the problem.

Interesting! In that case, using a few cycles of stop-down metering or digital preview should exercise the aperture mechanism and unstick it.
