How can the prices be bad here when there's nothing on the shelves anyway? So we buy from B&H anyway?
Well, I thought I'd get mine from all of those parallel imports on trademe - NOT!

Yes. We will see new primes. Not only DA*30 and DA15 limited.
I heard a 400/4 is on the way, and the source has been pretty reliable so far

If they charge more than a 1000.00 for the 60-250mm F4 they are living on another planet.
I know it takes awesome photo's, but no one in there right mind should pay that much for a telescoping F4 zoom lens, When you can get a F2.8 70-200 for 699.00.
I hear it will be out in a few weeks but Pentax will only hurt themselves charging that much.

I'd pay about $900 for the 60-250/4 if its barrel didn't extend. I hate telephotos with extending barrels

If that's true, then I for one will be very happy not to have replaced my FA*300/4.5 by the DA*300/4. A DA*400/4 would better suit my needs for long glass so the replacement funds can be spent on that one instead. I suppose it will be quite a bit more expensive though...

Great, but I suspect that the 400/4 will be quite a hunk of glass... The FA* was f/5.6 so the DA* will be a lot bigger I think.

However, I have still no reason to replace my Sigma 500/4.5 APO EX

For those that want a 400mm f4.0 lens I would suggest that you save up at least $5,000--Take a peek at the price of canons 400 f4.0 at BH. I would love to have such a lens but the price will be huge. Now a 400 f4.5 or f5.6 would be more in the line of what most people would spend.

other than that, i'm excited to see what primes pentax has in store for us! i'd be pretty darn torn between having a pancake lineup and DA* fast primes, as i sure can't afford both lineups haha!
Tell me about it.

My dream line-up is 15mm Limited, 30/31mm*, 55mm*, 70mm Limited + 35mm Macro Limited. Although maybe if we're lucky, the 15mm won't be a pancake design, just like the 35mm Macro wasn't!

Haha that's a lot of $$$ for roughly the same coverage as the 18-55mm kit lens.

It certainly is but those primes beat the zoom any day.

I'm just getting my first Limited in a week or so and have a couple of primes (50mm f/1.4 and 100mm f/2.8) and a couple of zooms (12-24mm f/4 and 50-135mm f/2.8). I'd love it if Pentax made a sharp ultra-wide angle lens (around 10mm or so) or a nice fish (10-17mm doesn't cut it for me, was thinking about ordering a Peleng from Russia or getting the Sigma 10-20mm but got the 12-24mm instead).

You cannot compare it to a Canon 400/4 lens. The Canon is a DO (and IS) lens and is consequently very expensive. A Pentax 400/4 will be significantly cheaper than a 300/2.8 lens. As most users of the latter uses it with a 1,4X conmverter glued on, a 400/4 makes a lot of sense....
..and if the speed is F:4, as oposed to of F:5.6 or F:4.5, it will retain AF when using a 1,4X converter; mandatory in todays ultra telephoto market.
If Pentax do indeed make such a lens, I promise not to switch to Nikon...

Pal,
I certainly hope that you are right about the pricing. I would try to find a way to buy that lens.
I don't think you dare switch to nikon because none of their cameras can top the images from the Pentax 645 that you are using.

Oh, my God ... I never thought there is a chance to get rid of your obsessions and very few ideas and now I can see the light. May Pentax announce all the lenses you want and a FF body the next day you switch to Nikon !
And please, stay there !

The Canon 400 DO lens is a very special item, the same price as Canon 500/4. It is extremely light-weight, extremely expensive, but great IQ. Beyond range of most consumers.
I hope for a Pentax DA* 400/4. Or maybe someday a 500/4.5.

I hope Pål stays in Pentax camp, he has a lot of knowledge and I generally like reading his posts.

Image quality of the Canon lens is debatable. It is very prone to flare. Sample to sample variations are large and many have given up on the lens after 3-4 bad samples.
