Remember that the K-3 II cost less at launch than the K-3. I'm not saying it will be the case with K-1 II (I'm convinced it won't), simply that an improved camera doesn't necessarily cost much more than its predecessor.
It's still bad news.
Because I really didn't need a new camera.

A big problem for Pentax.... all of us who don't really need new cameras. If they want to sell us something there's going to need to be some pizzaz.

K-5 to K-3 was pizzaz, K-3 to K-3ii not so much. To the point I'd say most K-3ii customers are people who didn't buy K-3s.

The naming scheme will be made simple with the advent of the LXD & MXD interchangeable viewfinder full frame systems. They will bring the best of both OVF & EVF mirrorless in one body. New XS lenses for ultra compact ultra wide lenses.

The real kicker will be due to the removable viewfinders which greatly enhances the ease of serviceability the new bodies can be upgraded with newer sensors over time.

Well, they don't seem unhappy to have me continuing to buy cameras I don't need... but I'll ask them, just in case

Now they can just start counting up with even numbers, K-2, K-4, K-6 ... Gives them a few models to run with ... Confusing, but what’s new

The K-4 ain't gonna happen. Unless they want to kill (/) their sales. Hahaha! Unlucky number in Japan.

i would think that a K-1 II is just a minor update, no new bodywork.

-> 42,5MP Sensor
-> New image Processor to cope with the additional pixels
-> 4K Video?
-> USB-C 3.1?
-> Maybe Faster Memory Card Slots that support the latest and greatest SD Cards?
-> Maybe Cost savings by replacing the Monitor with a cheaper, simpler Design? Maybe a touchscreen?

Lower latency & securing the imaging hardware supply by updating sensor + silicon + some extras? ...just a guess.

Funny guy! Stating you are expecting a "minor" update and then describing a camera with newer everything - sensor, processor, card slots, USB, touch screen, etc. Yeah, that's totally minor.

Reading the smoke signals, I think even a new sensor is looking less and less likely...

I'd call that a BIG update. Bodywork would be minor by comparison...

Think more USB-3 port, bigger buffer / wider bus and UHS-2 card slots, and MAYBE the image co-processor. Even that’s probably thinking too much.

The firmware update will mostly be for the 50/1.4 lens corrections.
