I think it's more than what the 6 MP actually does versus what it represents, or is perceived to represent. For me, that nudge that takes the "crop" part of the frame from the 16 to 18 range is something I'd like, but it's the implied aspect of newest tech e.g. Pentax is "keeping up", the implied AF improvements, the implied data transfer improvements and so on that is what that package represents and why it would stimulate a potential sale over the existing product or entice some of us to upgrade what is already a great camera. It's not just 6 MP, it's a whole lot more wrapped into it. I also would continue that the "let down" I think some are having (I am not one of them) over what was leaked is that it doesn't match the hoped for hype generated on the forums. It actually fits perfectly as a "-II" release - some nice enhancements, but nothing earth shaking, and yes, a whole new design with the most up to date sensor should get more than a "-II" notation, because that is big deal.

And we just need to sit tight another couple weeks before the curtain rises. Who says there isn't more at the show? And who says it's the only show of the year or the only time Pentax might release something? Still time to chill before jumping off bridges and tall buildings.

I think this is ridiculous. You are aware that you are talking about "releases" in relation to an event that is going to be in some days and all the information you have are unsubstantiated rumours?
Give them a break, take a break, whatever.
I agree with that, the gnashing of teeth and renting of garments and the anguish all over rumors......its getting really tiring.

Yes, wait for the K-1 Super before you do that, its main feature is a cape!

.
The main thing is not only MP. 42 MP sensor is new sensor and better in all aspects, 36 MP is old. Any higher resolution is better, even 6 MP - it means 3 extra MP for APS-C mode.

I didn't expect a 42MP sensor. I didn't expect a ton of upgrade. But how about autofocus that works as well as cameras released in 2014? How about lenses that every other system has had for nearly a decade. I guess that is my problem. I expected anything. It seems around here, it is best to expect nothing.

No it is not. Far from better in long exposures. It requires VERY cold ambient temperature to give usable long exposures after 30 seconds. Best thing in that Sony 42MP chip is dual-gain feature which gives almost as good ISO640 exposure as ISO100.

Good joke. How many users use such exposures?

Soon the only real use for DSLR is long exposures. Cellphones are enough for most things even today. Have you ever used a camera with 42MP Sony chip? R2 or R3? That 42MP is BSI technology demo, nothing else.

Yep. My list has grown substantially too.

I love it how some people would rather moan on the internet about how their chosen system has failed them than find solutions.

Endless entertainment.

Those who write about 42 megapixels do not own a k-1.

Put in your mind that this is only a firmware update masked as a new model, I think also that the "accelerator unit" is a marketing stuff.
