Good point. That must be it.

It does look quite like a K-70 around the mount and prism, but the top deck is different. There's a control to the right of the prism and the shutter button is different.
i would so LMAO if that’s a short-run K-3 Super with the KP/K-70 accelerator and a hinged LCD, to be followed in 2019 by a flagship with the BSI sensor.

Your friend is victim of shiny object syndrome. How in the world could Pentax's roadmap affect the pictures he can take RIGHT NOW with all the lenses available for the 645Z? At the very least, he should have waited until Fuji actually matched Pentax (assuming Fuji ever does).
The biggest thing was the flash system...or lack thereof. He couldn't get half his stuff to work right with the Z. In particular, HSS was something he couldn't get working, despite his efforts. He's a true pro too (does advertising photos for a living), so it was truly impossible. There's lots of non-lens things to a system and Pentax doesn't compete in those regards, at least for his needs.

TBH, it was a major reality check for me in how limited the Pentax system can be. Even a great product like the Z has major limits that pros can't deal with.

Just urban legend AFAIK.
Or Mirrorless Fake Obsession.
It's a real thing and it does affect some, me included.

Shutter shock is real. But it can be worked around and doesn't change my very high opinion of the K-1.
But if the new model eliminates it I'll be an early adopter.

The Cactus V6II makes HSS work in conjunction with a 645Z.

There may have been firmware versions with issues, but in principle, HSS is possible with the 645Z.

Not to mention the Priolite and Cononmark alternatives, that both support HSS on the 645Z.

A good pro using HSS with the 645Z

Well, it's too late now but here is a link to a good pro using HSS with the 645Z:
Xplor/Godox600, eVOLV200 and Pentax 645Z, HSS!!! – Mark Kitaoka Photographs

It's a bit of work but not that difficult. It's the principle many of us are using with the K3 and K1 to get off-camera HSS.

That image doesn't look like a K-1, but it isn't quite like any other camera either. If it's full frame, it's tiny. Actually, it looks more like a K-70 than anything else.
The curve on the mirror box looks more K-3 than anything to me, but the hand grip is different - I'm sure 0218 is just a typo

No issues with me. I use HSS with both K-1 and 645Z with Pentax flashes, Cactus flashes and Godox AD360

Announced in June 2016, the K-70 is due for replacement this year so...
