Three new cameras: K-1 mkII, K-3 mkIII and 645z mkII. Announced at CP+ but not all available soon. All using a new generation of sensor with supporting technology.

I am not under NDA so I can tell you the truth as I know it. Also, remember that those who are talking know nothing and those who know are not talking.
The Key here is the sensors.
The 42mp BSI FF sony sensor is on the market.
The 150mp/24mp MF/Aps-C BSI sensors is scheduled for release this year.

video speculating the K-1 is discontinued because the im094 sensor is no longer available. I don't understand Japanese, so I don't get why it has to be so long .

Exactly. Without this new sensor being available there has been no point in releasing a new APS-C flagship. Nothing has really changed since the K-3II tech to make it worth the effort. But building a new generation of cameras around a new generation of sensor technology shared across multiple formats. That makes a surprising amount of sense.

Not committing to an APSc flagship (which could be 15-18 months from release) before understanding what Nikon and Canon do with APSc mirrorless might be prudent. But it is likely APSc platform unit volume is necessary to cost out whatever hardware components are developed for the new camera(s).

Maybe they're also struggling to understand performance. This is precisely the area they're weaker at.
In whatever form they'll implement performance, I'll buy it (assuming I can afford it). Because I already have image quality.

That's possible and i'm sure that the K-3 II is also dicontinued because the used sensor is no longer produced. I wouldn't be surprised if the K-1's sensor would be replaced by the 42 MP sensor from Sony. No big deal but a facelift.

Just moving both the K-1 and K-3II to UHS-II would greatly improve performance without having to change anything else.

They could probably lower the price as well.

IMO there are many areas to improve, but card write speed is (for me at least) on top of the list.

Really there is no sense in upgrading anything until they move the storage to at least UHS-II.

Do you mean smoke as in be fast or smoke as in overheat and catch on fire?

Or at least full UHS-I (SDR-104) speed.
I don't really disagree; I find the wake-up delay annoying, too - for example. And if you don't stress out the buffer, the AF-C might be more important.

I hope it is not the 42MP Sony sensor. It is notoriously bad with long exposures, horrible even. Requires -30C to get to multiminute level properly. R2 was horrible long exposure camera and R3 seems to be even worse than that.

They will need the new 4k 30p milbeaut. That is not a problem, it has been out for ages. Nor is increasing the camera writing speed if they do. But the 42mp sensor has so far only been in Sony camera's and it is not on the third party list. Products Line up for Camera Image Sensor for Camera | Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation The imx094 is still on there though so maybe it will be in the K1 II after all. Worst case scenario would be a 24mp sensor. Would be good for the market value of used k-1's though .
