Actually in this very case and as long as pricing is decent, why not rebadge Tammy's 17-50 ?
Only heard good things about that one. Is it good enough to fit in the range ??

Of course no * then, but if they do not have the funds/time/whatever seems acceptable to me.

A real update with DC would be nice though... (16-50 and 50-135).

@superdave:
I agree, they should improve their visibility. Even if they don't want to get into specifics about new products, there's much that could be done.

@thibs:
Not this rebadging nonsense again!
Are you seriously suggesting Pentax should replace their DA* with a decade old Tamron?

I'm not sure they would put new APS-C lenses on the roadmap, if they're updates for existing lenses. They didn't for the 55-300 RE PLM...
Don’t forget, every new FF K-mount lens will work perfectly well on your APS-C camera if its KAF4 compatible.
Most of the complaints have been about lack of fast wide glass which FF releases will mostly fix up. The 11-18/2.8 is really the only piece that was noticeable missing from the line up. Not that some upgraded lens motors wouldn’t go astray.

Right, but the 16-50 might also benefit from improved optics.

For the last year and a half, we have been clamoring for new gear and now, we are upset because it isn't the right new gear, even though the indications are that Pentax is working on several different things.

The problem clearly is that Pentax is a relatively small company that is going to have trouble releasing more than two to three new cameras in a given year, plus lenses for those cameras. If you are someone who needs a new camera every eighteen months then maybe Pentax isn't the camera company for you.

Maybe it speaks to my level of pessimism last year, but if they had announced, even a new 645z and a 20mm lens for medium format, I would have been happy. Not because I was interested in those items, but because it showed they are working on something behind the scenes. And that is what I take away from this rumored activity. Pentax is working on several cameras which apparently will be released in the order of full frame, medium format, and then high end APS-C. In the end, the crop folks should be happy, but it will probably be fall before we get an official announcement with specifications.

In the meantime, used K-1s will probably be hitting the market as people upgrade to the K1 II and will actually be cheaper than the coming K3 III and this will test the resolve of current crop users as to whether or not they maybe, just maybe want to try out full frame...

That's my thought exactly - CP+ is just a few weeks away, and it will hopefully kick off a good month for Pentax fans with new equipment. Release new products and make announcements at CP+ = good month of March for all the postive follow-up commentary I know this forum will be full of!

(and if not, the beatings will continue until morale improves)

@beachgardener:
I planned to buy lenses this year, anyway. I do hope they're working on performance though...
Wait... moderate Polish? Do you mean... that it's easier to learn than Czech?

Kenspo likes being chased by the Ricoh YaKuza. Let's hear some snippets Kenspo. I am not sure about taking Asahi man seriously any more.

Don't know what you mean by KAF4 compatible: the 150-450DFA works fine in my K-5iis (although the focus buttons in the lens aren't seen by the camera). In fact, it specifically does not support KAF4.

The only KAF4 lens so far is the 55-300 PLM. The 150-450 is NOT a KAF4 lens. The new 50 will almost certainly be KAF4. Bodies not compatible with KAF4 will physically mount and focus a KAF4 lens but won't be able to control its aperture and so will only shoot the lens wide open. KAF4 lenses don't have a physical aperture lever.

He's probably thinking of the D FA* 50mm f/1.4, which is KAF4 (and there's a good chance the future lenses will be KAF4, too).
