The image quality of the K-1 is quite good. That's not an issue, really. The product line, however, is. More than that, the message this sends is not one of confidence. It's been two years since the K-1 came out and we've gotten what for it? NOT ONE NEW FF LENS in that time. This update, to me, says "This is our product and our product line and it's not going to improve." Feels like the K-1 was a bone they threw to long-time Pentax users but they either don't have the interest or the resources to develop it into a product line that can remotely compete with the offerings from Canon and Nikon.

And I'm not even talking about having two hundred crazy lenses in weird focal lengths. A modern 35mm. A modern 50mm. A modern 85mm. We have none of those. The 24-70 is a rebadge. We've been waiting for two years for some of these products and gotten nothing.

A friend of mine had the 645Z and really loved the camera. The lack of third party support (i.e., his flash equipment which said it would work with HSS and just didn't despite his efforts) and a sense of "This is all I'm going to get" is what made him abandon it for Fuji. I may finally understand.
This right here.

I've been on the Pentax train for over 20 years. It is really starting to feel like this is my last stop.

That right there, is ignoring the fact that we're expecting the D FA* 50mm f/1.4, and soon. While complaining about the lack of a modern 50mm.

What MadMathMind said isn't true.

Since the release of the K-1 there has has been five new full frame DFA lenses.

The 15-30, the 24-70, the 28-105, the 70-200, and the 150-450.

Not exactly. Pentax K-1 was announced on February 17th, 2016. together with the 15-30mm and the 28-105mm. The three other lenses were announced before the K-1:
  • the 24-70 on September 24th, 2015
  • the 70-200 and the 150-450 on February 4th, 2015 (the 70-200 being then delayed by around one year).

Release dates, according to Amazon. These may be pre-sale dates but I know for sure the 150-450 was available in August 2015 because I played with one on my trip to B&H in that month.

150-450: February 2, 2015
24-70: September 24, 2015
15-30: February 17, 2016
28-105: February 17, 2016

K-1: early May 2016

The 70-200 I can't be sure of; it was supposed to come out in 2015 but it got delayed a few times. I think it actually was available for purchase before the K-1, however.

So, no, I'm not wrong. All of these lenses were either released at the same time as or before the K-1. Reading is tech.... "since the K-1 came out, we've gotten no new lenses."

MMM, If you consider the FA31 and DA*55 to be terrible lenses I really think you should switch brands.

Life's too short.

Now, now, let's be honest. You also wrote: "This is our product and our product line and it's not going to improve.".

That's a long time to realize that Pentax isn't the Canikon express,

Green is always greener on the other side I see it again and again (and again) on photo forums, here on pf, and my previous mft forums.

Especially since, counting the years, that meant buying into {from 'scratch'} Pentax's body-motor AF, and ignoring Canon's lovely EF system that drew me away from Pentax; if ever there was time to go elsewhere, that was the time!! - and this is not the time!

I sincerely hope that these rumored specs are a joke, a prank to make competing brands laugh before they get crushed by something huge and unexpected. If not, then Ricoh just have beaten Canon with the most unexciting and boring "new" camera release ever.
I kind of hoped Ricoh to be innovative company and bring out Pentax technologies from being old fart. Keeping my fingers crossed for these leaked specs to be all wrong except for the ISO part.

You never know. Someone somewhere who manufactures higher frame rate shutters looks for a new buyer at reduced prices to keep an old production line alive. I think a lot of the time, these things, like the 645z just fall into Pentax's lap and they just rub their hands together and take advantage.

I think you will find that the update(thats what it is,not a new camera model) will take an excellent camera model to the superb level. The K-1 is already ahead of the rest for what it does well.

Comparing the K-1 / K-1II update to the EOS 6D / 6DMkII makes no sense. The K-1 hasn't even been around for two years, and Pentax's "II" models are typically mid-term product refresh types. The EOS 6D was something like four years old by the time the MkII was released. So that's really comparing apples and oranges.

What you're hoping for is the K-2. I'd say you've rocked up at least a year early for that...
