I think that the new PS functionality will come to all of us if using the DCU software provided by Pentax. They will have to update the software to accomodate the K-1II. I.e we will be able to apply it to already taken images with the K-1 and the K-3II.

"Additionally, Ricoh said that the new PENTAX K-1 Mark II incorporates Pixel Shift Resolution System II, a new PENTAX-developed technology that uses the same in-camera shake reduction mechanism and sensor shifting capabilities found in the previous model. The system allows the camera to capture four images of the same scene and then synthesize them into a single, super-high-res composite image. The system in the Mark II allows the camera to collect RGB color data, which Ricoh said results in “images with significantly finer detail and truer colors than those produced by typical full-frame sensors.”

@kenspo: ... so we will see, if we get a Firmwareupgrade for handhold PS in the K-1 :-)

No it won’t because the PS processing happens in camera and not in the DCU.

Well, the PS we have today is also processed in camera AND in the software. Why do you think this will be any different? The K-3II does not have MC in camera but the files gets MC in the software.

What I mean with processed in camera is that the camera creates a single file in camera that is processed from four different exposures. The new Dynamic PS will most probably involve a process that only the K-1 II will be capable of. How should a simple update for a software that runs on a computer be able to do the necessary in camera processing?

That's only true for the JPEG; the RAW file contains the 4 actual exposures.

The PS you have today in K-1 and in K-3II creates a large RAW file containing the four exposures. The DCU/Pentax software and the camera processes this file in the same way for you to export to a jpeg or TIFF.

Therefor I assume that the new algorithm is only software and therefor possible in camera and in computer as long as you have the RAW file.

But it's not just software. The new SR+PS also requires much more accurate motion sensor data than the K-1 seems to have. (That's based on people's experiences with very long-long shutter time SR). Thus, even if you could install the K1ii firmware in the the K-1, the SR data coming from the K-1 and embedded with the 4 RAWs would not be good enough for successful DCU processing.

But we shall see!

Guessing here but the 4 exposure raw file could just contain metadata with the offsets recorded by the sr.

Much like the current PS it will likely all be in the raw. Motion correction is postprocessing not reliant on any special in can process.

Sounds like and accurate description of the "normal" PS we already have.
