Obviously was for you and me, Surfar!

EU people do get more than 12 months warranty versus US buyers, though, that's just by law, and the price has to take those extra repairs and returns into account.

Well i paid full retail from a B/M store...and to me its still worth what i paid. However, the Ebay price from CR has shrunk and then theres the 20% discount times...that makes it a bargain.I picked up the 28/105 for a bit of a discount but scored $800ozzy off on the *man lens, with full warranty.

There are already 32 users on this forum who've claimed in a poll thread that's only been up a day that they're probably going to do this upgrade, Ron, so how clever is that? Ricoh get that 25% upmark, win-win as another member observed.
This is always the tricky question. Ofcourse the most active members on this forum have a K-1 and are bound to update their camera more then K-1 owners that don't visit any forums.

What would I do? First I don't have a K-1, but I bought a lot of Pentax camera's in the past. So here is my approach to this.
If I bought the K-1 at start for 1899 euro (that was on offer for a period in the beginning) before the quake then my K-1 would be almost 2 years old now (I had K-5 and K-3 at start also).
I could sell my K-1 for 1200 euro very fast I think. It's a good price for people in the secondhand market. I could buy a K-1ii for 1999 (maybe even 1899 since I have some connection). That would mean that I pay 200 to 300 euro extra over the upgrade, but have a brandnew camera! That is the real write-off for two years of use for the K-1. That would be my first choice.

Both would work well for Ricoh-Imaging since it is about sales.

Win-win.

Great marketing, no one else has done this.

You helped to name the 28-105 when you made the comment"walkabout" when it was missing in transit!...At the long end Bigma already had a name and "Super" was super value and had its name written on it(Sigma superwide 24mm f2.8)

But only if the gain in IQ is big enough to make this jump. I don't know about that. The K-1 wasn't lacking in the IQ area. Holding on to your K-1 as it is......simply the cheaper and maybe smartest thing to do.

People have already voted with their wallets, Ron, just read what your fellow members say.

They've preordered the II.

Don't put a dampener on this.

Certainly they will offer an upgrade service for it, too.
Sure. For $1500 they'll upgrade it to a DFA*50

Those who can spend the money always make a smart choice to do so.

I'm assuming you keep them in the study on a shelf inside little houses that have their names above each front door, Surfar!

I think @Kerrowdown sleeps with his. He lies on a massive purple waterbed surrounded by his 'Elegant Lady', 'Majestic Princess', 'Town Bike', etc.

You're correct when you say the cheaper and maybe the smartest thing to do is simply to hang on to the K-1 as it is. Maybe, because it will be smart for some and not for others. As with most choices in the hobby, the right choice is a personal thing.

One smart choice, at least where hobbyists are concerned, is to do what makes you happy... and even if it's not always the best option, there's nothing wrong with feeling happy
