I've already contacted my local Pentax dealer - Fovi - and inquired about the upgrade. In any case my K1 has to be sent to France for a replacement of the main pcb. Might as well kill two birds with one stone.

You're both pretty cool figures, Savoche, but if there's money at stake it's got to be on the guy who's probably already shot concerts with the DFA 50mm f1.4!

That upgrade thing is about the smartest move in camera industry I have seen in years. It is extremely win-win for both buyers and manufacturer.

How to tell? I've seen his haircut, but I haven't seen yours.

I am excited! Wondering about the details and what they do if they find anything wrong with my existing K1. Mine gets A LOT of use and I take it with me everywhere. It’s had a few quirks but everything seems okay at the moment...

It looks like a good deal to me. If you have a brand new (or relatively new) K-1, you probably should just sell it and buy a K1 II if you want to upgrade. On the other hand, if you have a two year old camera with 50,000 images taken with it, odds are you aren't going to get 1400 dollars out of it and it would be cheaper to upgrade.

For those who are unsure if there is benefit to such an upgrade, the best thing is to wait and see how the images from the K1 IIs look and see if the new features will benefit their shooting style. If you never shoot pixel shift and never shoot iso over 200, you may have just saved yourself quite a bit of money.
