Been out of the loop awhile. Did we know that the 11-18 was going to be KAF3?

No, they didn't release any specs. But I definitely wouldn't expect it to be screwdrive.

Well judging by this it doesn't seem like the 11-18mm will be available until later this year. Probably along with the next apsc camera.

Awesome, the press-release explains the purpose of the second switch on 11-18 barrel: "Focus clamp function that can fix the focus position at an arbitrary place"

Doesn't sound like they intend to abandon APS-C. Or not replace the APS-C 'flagship'

Now if they follow this up with a 'mkII' of the 16-50 and 50-135 they will have a really nice trio for APS-C.

Then bring out a 'mkII' of the DA*60-250 that works on both FF and APS-C.

Hopefully this 11-18 will be my next lens. Does anyone want to take a guess of a price ballpark? Any chance it will be sub $1000?

I didn't pee my pants laughing, does that mean there's hope?

  • ・Filter diameter is 82 mm
  • ・Adopted KAF3 lens mount with many compatible cameras available
  • ・Market launch: Scheduled for the summer of 2018
82mm filter ring on a crop lens... that's a big fella. Might have minimal vignetting for an f/2.8 ultrawide.. or generally decent quality edge performance.

No way it retails for over a thousand USD. I'm guessing 600 to 800 USD.

KAF3 is smart if they don't/cant upgrade older bodies to KAF4. Larger pool of cameras that can support this lens.

I don't see it happening before 2020, if ever. But, yes, an update of the 16-50 optically (improve sharpness at f/2.8 and reduce CA throughout aperture and focal length) and the 50-135 if for just the motor and coatings would be super. I think they could keep the same optical formula for the 50-135 and it would still be a quality lens. My absolute favorite Pentax lens (optically).

I don't mind if it is more than $1000, but I will be dispointed if it tuns out been an KAF4... I still use mine K5II and, with the (not even close to be announced...) K3II replacement, I hope i could use it in both.

Ops!

Didn't see that, it WILL BE KAF3 compatible!!!

YES!!
