Great to see confirmed that the 11-18 will take filters. Although it's a shame the filter thread is one size larger than my current filters, that are all 77mm to fit the 16-50/2.8 (and most of my Samyangs from the 16/2 up)
But it has the same filter size as SIgma 10-20/3.5 which is very reasonable.

The DA*11~18/2.8 will reveal the standard, configuration, features and appearance of the DA*16~50/2.8 and DA*50~135/2.8 when they are reworked and re-released (they could be SDM instead of DC depending on the amount of glass in the focusing group). Lens formulas will be corrected to prepare the lenses for future advances in imaging technology. They will be reference lenses, like the D FA*70~200/2.8.

Pentax will have an APSc ‘*’ grade Holy Trinity Zoom offering.*

Once momentum begins to build Pentax will have enough cash flow to increase the release schedule, which will create more cash flow . . . .which is how you build a brand around a long-term Vision.

* Of course there will be a flagship APSc body. Otherwise these lenses would be overkill.

I'm not so sure that, apart from the coatings used, the optical formulas of the revamped 16-50mm f/2.8 and 50-135mm f/2.8 will differ from those of the current lenses.

Rep, at NEC Photoshow today, saying DFA *FA 50 will be priced between £1100 & £1200. Probably no news, but it's around the figure I'd suspected.

If this lens is tested here, which I'm sure it will, if there's any chance of running the DFA 50mm f2.8 macro alongside it, I'd be interested to see the results. Being a fan of the macro, I can't really imagine it will fare 4 times 'better'. Yes I know the new lens will be faster and will probably have pixie dust, but it's big and heavy and pricey ...

Whatever Zeiss 50 1.4 can be mounted on the same camera, as well as stuff like an A 50 1.2 and a DA*55 would also be of interest, I bet.

the real measure of the lens may not be known for years... when ff is at 60+mp... then it might be easier to tell the difference the old lenses and the new.

If the DFA* 50 @ f/1.4 gets to 90% of the resolution of the 50/2.8 Macro @ f/2.8 I'd be gob smacked. Truth be told I'd be happy with 75% to 80%, Happy enough to put down the grand or so sight unseen (there are no Pentax dealers worth mentioning in Ireland so normally deal with the brilliant SRS in Watford) to get an early example.

My bet is the 11-18 comes out in the US for 1,100 or so... Maybe 1,250 max...Either way I am in!
I'm just gonna start saving money for that lens. It's exactly what I need, no matter the price.

So funny, it is several yrs since DA*55 appeared. Exactly same rumble was going on. Will it be so and so much better to justify the prize..55 is good, if focusing was faster, it would be perfect. I’m really having my eyes on this new 50. And coming up 85. I’v been dreaming of that 70-200/2.8, but perhaps 28-105 + 70-200/4 and new 50&85 is better combination. More expensive all together, but not so bulk as that big zoom. I have my limiteds for lighter combo. I’m really happy with these new options.

If I’d be APS-C shooter I would be allover that 11-18 too! Good to be poor so you have to save up for ages...by 2019 I’ll have the $$$

I literally can't wait for this lens. For a long time, I'm really hyped for this kind of product.

In the last 10 days I saw a couple of pictures, some in compare to the current Zeiss and Sigma line and it looks very, very good.
The coating is clear and free of reflections like the *70-200,the AF speed is fast and with high response, handling great and if we get hopefully the AF firmware of the ll, we get a very nice and high end pro lens.
But optical quality is absolutely at the highest point.
1.4 is absolutely useful, from mid to the corners.
After the production step of this 50 dream, Pentax will start the pre-production of the 85, so it looks like next spring is very bokehlicious
