This has not been announced, Ogl.

When it is, you will read about it here, I'm sure.

Follow Ricoh Imaging's Twitter feed for official announcements (and nice pics, too).

I've been testing the new 50mm 1.4 DFA* lens, on the K-1 MKII, and it is indeed an outstanding optic, and extraordinarily sharp as well as heavy and well balanced. I'll post samples on my Facebook page this week, look for Kerrick James, or sign into the Pentaxians FB page...

According to La Boutique Pentax in Paris, the commercial availability of the HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW is delayed until July 2018. The alleged cause is an incident on the production line.

For all the MBA justification of machines not getting sick, having hangovers, forming unions, making mistakes and being generally imprecise, as do and are people, when your sole, critical, purpose-built machine catastrophically fails* product production is completely shut down until your machine can be repaired or a replacement can be built and installed.

If Ricoh didn’t have bad luck they wouldn’t have any luck at all.

* assuming such an event was the ‘incident’.

La Boutique Pentax in Paris is a 100% credible source. Ricoh could not lie to them and they would not ‘spin’ the truth to us.

Nothing is 100% infallible though.

Hundreds is not a commercial release quantity.

Hundreds might be the initial monthly volume for such a lens. Or for two months.

IIRC part of the reason the DFA 70-200 was delayed involved faults in the production process at commercial speed resulting in excess units failing production standards tests. IF something similar was described as an ’incident’ on the production line (a machine tolerance failure) then the statement could be construed as spin.

My take would then be Pentax could be applauded for delaying release until they get it right, but they should have said that.
