Hundred is not a commercial release quantity.
You konw DFA15-30/2.8 only have 200 per month.

IIRC part of the reason the DFA 70-200 was delayed involved faults in the production process at commercial speed resulting in excess units failing production standards tests. IF something similar was described as an ’incident’ on the production line (a machine tolerance failure) then the statement could be construed as spin.

My take would then be Pentax could be applauded for delaying release until they get it right, but they should have said that.
The should be, but they would not be - we're too impatient for our own good.

I'd rather prefer to have a properly working sample later, than a not-so-good-but-still-not-bad-enough-for-warranty-repair sample now.
Anyway, if the lens will indeed be delayed, I'd expect an official announcement.

Is July even that much of a slide? It's April in a couple days as I write this; I bet people can wait another few weeks or whatever it is.

The Tokina opera lens is manufactured by Tokina and has therefore no relation with a potential 'production incident'concerning the Pentax lens.

Pentax says a problem on the production line. That could mean a redesign of one of the assembly robots, or a failure of a critical machine. I fail to understand why that is so hard to believe. It doesn't matter how many they have, if the line is shut down and they are likely to run out before production resumes, they are doing the right thing.

Pentax doesn't say anything, they aren't communicative... they communicate , they are lying. If I were them I wouldn't say a thing. Let everyone stew in their juices.

I think any disappointment if this becomes more widely known will be based on expectations raised by asahi man's earlier post saying April release.

What was consensus on arrival of the Tokina-inspired 70-200f4? Next year some time?

I can’t find a reference, but I am completely inept with search on my phone...

It's not hard to believe at all. The problem is, all we have is a statement made by some French store's employee. If it's confirmed by a second independent source...

There is no such consensus.

My understanding is that the problem was caused by a Chinese gentleman on a tour of the plant who slapped down a huge wad of banknotes on what he thought was a tabletop while exclaiming “I buy Pentax!”. Unfortunately he had failed to notice that the tabletop was in fact part of the production line which swiftly conveyed his treasure into an automated assembly machine which chewed up the notes and then jammed. He lost his investment and Pentax lost their lens. It looks as if 01 April could be tricky out East ...

Tokina-inspired are your words and your words only.

As per the Pentax roadmap, the HD Pentax-D FA 70-200mm f/4's tentative release date is spring 2019.

Reminiscent of Lucille Ball. And no fish on the back, please.

So they've been told, by an unnamed third party, "renounce Pentax and optical viewfinders and we'll let you sell those nice A7-series cameras"... maybe?

(this, and the earlier statement are jokes - in case there's some doubt about it).
