Maybe the long awaited successor of the DA* 16-50 2.8 is just around the corner...
Just to be clear, the DA* lenses - which asahiman hints might be due for an upgrade announcement in September - are:
DA*55/1.4
DA*200/2.8
DA*300/4
DA*11~18/2.8 (new lens scheduled for summer release)
DA*16~50/2.8
DA*50~135/2.8
DA*60~250/4 (can be physically altered to cover the FF image circle)
The telephoto lenses were FF designs and are
certified by Pentax to be FF compatible. They probably needn’t be fully redesigned, but could get new motors. Given the D FA*50/1.4, one questions the need to invest in the DA*55.
But the 16~50 and 50~135 would be logical lenses to redesign and announce or release with a replacement APSc flagship. Pentax would then have (including the 11~18) a Holy Trinity of ‘*’ APSc ZOOMS, plus potentially the 60~250/4.
