There are few things as futile as calls to go back on topic.   AFAIK, the "normal" focal length for any given format was defined as its diagonal. If and how this corresponds to any "natural" property of human vision is open to debate (I would suspect that it has cultural aspects too, for instance relating to the physical distance that we perceive as comfortable when communicating with people we are not too intimate with or to the conventions of Western painting). So no, 43mm is no coincidence. | |
