Finally we know a new TC will come 🔭
When it happens, it'l be the first FF TC from Pentax who uses the AF of the lens. The AF of the F 1.7X was independend from the lens.

So if there are no surprises, a possible name can be D FA 1.4X AW.

Since the price for the DA was around $400, the D FA could be around 500$.

I hope it'll be really good!

I have both the Sigma and Tamron 1.4X; never was particularly good. I'm sure though this one will be beyond my means.

The Pentax DA1.4X is very reasonably priced at this point even though it does perform well.
There is no reason to expect the DFA 1.4X to be unreasonably priced once the price stabilizes.

For a guy who started buying camera gear in the 1980s, I think the DA 1.4X is a little pricy, even though you cannot really argue too much with its results. The DFA 1.4X will probably be priced like the FA* primes: higher than what I'm used to, but justifiable to many because of the uncompromising performance.

I purchased my first {it was a Pentax} SLR in 1979.
Yes, the 1.4X TC is priced more than the K-mount 2X TC I purchased in the early 1980's, but not only does it carry signals, it is also much better optically than that piece of junk - and it is worth every penny.
I use it with my DA 55-300mm PLM lens to create a 77-420mm PLM lens, and I cannot tell when I took at a photo whether it was taken with the lens alone or at a lesser extension but with the TC.

The Pentax 1.4x TC pricing looks in line with other first-party TC's.

I don't own it, as I use Pentax's sharpest K-mount TC ever, the A 1.4x-L Rear Converter.

But it is an APS-C teleconverter.
I have one, I'd sell it and buy a D FA version (provided it's useful with the D FA 150-450...).

The Fuji 1.4x TC is also APS-C, and it is currently ~$50 more than the Pentax model at B&H.

But yeah, it is a serious bummer that the Pentax doesn't fit the FF image circle. The latest Canon tele extenders reportedly play quite nicely with the 100-400 ii, so I would expect no less from Pentax.

I'm not surprised about the alignment in pricing. Optics are definitely more expensive these days, thanks in part (at least) to the introduction of higher-resolution digital camera sensors and the rise of the pixel peepers (I used consider slides to be acceptably sharp if they looked good when projected on a big screen, even if they weren't perfect when examined with a loupe. There's no place for imperfections to hide when viewing an image at 100% on a large monitor).

What news? There isn't anything but mere speculation from two and a half years ago (see when this thread was started).

I'll buy a D FA version (provided it's useful with the D FA 150-450...) and conserve the other for my new K3 Mk3... It will be amazing

"Captains log... Date: June, 2395.... I have just received word from headquarters that the Ricoh Pentax-Nikon corporation has finally released the Pentax K-3 Mark V and the long awaited full frame teleconverter. After investigating this random energy wave that surely won't transport us to some far away location and strand us out here with no hope of return in the next 100 years, we shall begin our voyage back home so that we may purchase these wonderful products. This will work wonderfully on my Pentax K-1 Mark III released just 10 years ago..."
