I for sure really could use a full frame TC, I may have to just bite the bullet and get the DA one, and when I get my K1, will have to get the full frame one when it comes out

I have bought a Sigma 8-16, and it is the only lens I have really ever been interested from Sigma, nope......not gonna miss them, they are no where near the quality of Pentax lenses

The Pentax 1.7x AF does pretty well on my K-1 II. Think I'd favor it over the 1.4x (which I also have) on the K-1.

Seems like no news yet for release of any TC in 2020.
So let's hope for 2021

Not many lenses would really work well with a FF TC.200/300/560... are not FF designs. 150-450 would get quite dark, 70-210/80-200 would do. A macro TC could make sense for 100M. A dedicated TC for a certain range of lenses requires early thinking during lens design. No TC is better than some kind of TC. A remake of some lenses + dedicated TC would be great, but that is asking for several products and we are just waiting for a single TC.

DA200/300/560 are officially FF capable.

DA* 200mm and DA* 300mm are true FF designs. DA560mm is FF capable.
We are expecting two TC from Pentax.

I've got the f1.7, and I love it. I actually like the AF functionality because I find I never use the TC in situations that require fast action sporty kind of stuff, I do use it with zooms as well as primes, on everything from the 100mm macro to 560mm prime. What I like about it is that AF is so much faster when I can "dial in" an initial rough focus with the lens and then do AF with the TC. And that's effective because most of the stuff I do doesn't move very much, but when it does move (e.g., an animal), it tends to be quick. With the limited movement of the TC AF mechanism, I can refocus with the limited range like lightening. In that sense it does act like the range limitations built into lots of zooms.

A 1.4x TC for FF will basically only use APS-C portion of the image circle, so it should work fairly well if used with APS-C lenses on FF camera too.

So you can use a FF teleconverter on a FF camera with an APS lens and probably be fine...

But an APS teleconverter with a FF lens on a FF camera is likely to vignette...

And both APS and FF teleconverters will work with APS and FF lenses on APS cameras...

Simple, right?

How well does the DA 1.4X TC work on a K-1?
Does it "turn a DA lens" into something that works as a 'FF' lens?

The DA 1.4x vignettes on full frame because of the teleconverter, though how much apparently varies with the lens you’re using.

There've been a number of people who have been ok with that or have been cropping anyway...

Not very well... it vignettes beyond any recoverable level. It is most certainly a crop design, though optically superb.

If you're using it to extend range, the fact that you need to crop doesn't really matter so much. It is definitely not any good for wide angle...
[I've used it with DFA 150-450, DA*200, DA*300 and Sigma DC 10-20. All the teles are FF capable designs, but vignette. I tried the Sigma 10-20 at the request of a forum user - that proved that it doesn't work; I would use the DFA 15-30 normally.]

I'll certainly be in the market for a DFA converter, assuming it matches the optical performance of the DA 1.4.

Are you tempted to go FF? The K-1/KP ergonomics are very similar, but the K-1 is a better fit to my hands. The KP is better for telephoto work due to pixel density. The K-1 really rocks for landscape/astro.

I think Phoebus is on target. I just put my 1.4x TC on my K-1 II with the Sigma 17-70 and the DA* 16-50 just to see how they would do. They both vignette quite a bit without the 1.4x TC, and with it, they improve a lot, but I would say you would have to play with specific lenses and see if you were happy with the output. I find I use my K-3 II for telephoto work and my K-1 II for wider angles, and I'm honestly not using the TCs as much as I thought I would.
