It is exactly the kind of thing that will sway someone getting their first DSLR, for whom all the specs are just numbers without much meaning. A fun color makes people *want* it on an irrational "I really like that" level. It's the same reason the silver lenses sell for more 2nd hand. People will look for reasons to buy X over Y, if X appeals to their gut. People will pay a bit more for something neat, even if they know rationally that it makes no difference.
I'd not be on this forum if Pentax would not have had the "select body and grip colour" option.
My mum and me both could have a say (she didn't want a black body anyways). Ended up with an orange body and blue grips. It grew on me.
Would have bought a non black K-1 in a heart beat, but now that I've got one..
