Originally posted by monochrome This is a Pentax-patented design, with some Co-design work by Tokina. Tokina has licensed the d sign and will offer this lens in other mounts, such as for Nikon and Canon. As elsewhere stated, the 70-200 and 150-450 are 100% Pentax designs and aren’t licensed to Tamron (or anyone else).
Why not $800? Because it is worth $1,200 - $1,300.
Hmm, ok didn't know that, but the 70-200 G2 has so many similarities…
Sorry for the confusion.
As for the price, putting it over 1k would leave them at an disadvantage over Sigma. Just consider for a moment not what it's worth for you or me, or as pentaxians, but the options available in the third party manufacturer market for all the different DSLR camera mounts.
Consider this: is really an advantage of AF over one lens maker and WR over another really worth that price difference?
I really hope you guys are right, and that this is going to reflect on good income for Pentax through the licensing of the design and allow them to develop many more lenses in the future.
