Sorry, those graphs mean nothing to me. Is it good or bad for the Pentax?

According to Nokishita Camera, that's a (discounted) street price including VAT (8 per cent. in Japan). In Japan large retail stores and online retailers offer discounts on the RRP from the day of the announcement.

The official announcement should take place tomorrow night at 10pm UTC (Thursday morning in Japan).

Nikon explains it quite well: What is a lens MTF chart and how do I read it | NIKKOR lens technology from Nikon

It looks like the sigma excels at center sharpness and contrast, while the center of the Pentax is less sharp it has better sharpness across the frame and better contrast across the frame though a steeper drop off at the edges. This is all at F1.4 of course where the edges hardly ever matter.

Which that's an incredible win for this lens seeing the Art series lenses are known and marketed as having the superior corner-to-corner sharpness in the industry. Also, it looks like the bokeh is going to be much softer, something Pentax lenses like the Limited series were always known for.

Looking at the graphs D1N0 has for the Sigma and Pentax, they are very much equal, and both should render fine details quite well! Now let's see an 85mm equivalent!

heavier than the Sigma 50/1.4, a tad better MTF charts, the Pentax should be gorgeous and massive. I like that !

What an astounding number of glass elements for a fixed focal length lens. I guess it's a sign of the times - the demand for edge-to-edge sharpness and minimal aberration.

In the digital imaging world. we are asking a lot more out of smaller original images. The film equivalent would be asking a 35mm image to deliver the same level or detail and clarity as a medium or even large format camera. This requires complex lens designs and with complexity comes increased cost.
