Pentax D FA*: 830g approx. (According to Pentax rumors)

So it sits a little above the Sigma. The Otus is all metal I guess being around 1kg.

The actual DFA 50 lens brochure says 'approx 910g/ with hood approx. 955g'.

But add front and rear lens caps onto the scale and it might reach 1kg.

The way things are going with these 'high resolution' 50mm designs, soon they may need to come with a tripod foot.

So mid-July is the way to go?

Damn. I thought the Sigma was a boat anchor. The Sony-Zeiss 50mm F/1.4 FE is also a lens that boarders on being just too big.
so, the new Pentax lens will be perfectly in balance as the "Camera is quite heavy and bulky"

Let's hope the lens is also "large and intimidating" and "large and obtrusive" so that it fits the K-1 (II)!

P.S.: I like the new 50/1.4 quite a bit but am perhaps more keen on the new 85mm.

We also didn't have 1.8 zooms once, like the Sigma 18-35 and 50-100...
You didn't need to, though, as you had FF cameras and f/2.8 zooms gave you the same images. These f/1.8 zooms are only meant for and are only needed for APS-C.

...just thought I'd start a debate here; this should take care of the last ~3,800 posts needed handsomely.

Well, I think the Zeiss Otis and Sigma Art are 77mm filter sizes, so in theory, more glass again, and better IQ.

D1N0 suggested in the MTF graphic he posted that the Sigma is sharper in the centre, but oddly less so across the frame.
Filter size depends on design, not on quantity of glass and is not reflective of IQ. We can see that in the lens database. Some Pentax redesigns have smaller filters and are better corrected than their predecessors.

I wouldn't mind having the option to buy a tripod foot for this lens. Specially for its size and weight matching that of the camera.

Not really, Torashi.

The modern DFA zooms are larger than previous FA designs.

And none of these Star primes will have 49mm filter sizes like the M series, their performance will be far superior.

Before someone has a heart attack: it's 1197$. Which is absolutely reasonable.

I really hope this is the price. From some of the speculation I feared it would be too expensive for wide adoption but this is well within reason for a top modern lens.

That is over 100 USD less than what seemed to be the consensus lowest retail price, so I call that a win for a 2+ pound prime lens. Still staggeringly complex and heavy, but the images seen so far say it is going to abuse the Arts.

Hmm ... The FA 50/1.4 weighs 220 g and costs (in Norway) ~ USD 549.-. That gives about USD 2,549.- per kg, while the D-FA 50/1.4 at 910 g and USD 1,197.- gives about USD 1,315.- per kg. Clearly you get much more lens for your money with the new lens!
